loss of blood during surgery

I'm due to have a TAH/BSO in the coming weeks. My blood pressure tends to run on the lower end, so losing too much blood during surgery is one of the million things running through my head at present. Can anyone tell me if that is one of the bigger issues with this surgery? Since everything is going, and the dr. will be cutting a 6-8 inch insision, this would seem like as good as time as any for blood loss. Thanks sisters!

I have about a 9 inch insision, I only lost about 100cc's of blood which surprised the Dr. due to my anemia.

How much blood loss is too much? At what point would they need to transfuse? My husband is donating for me before surgery but again, I'm just nervous w/my low blood pressure. Thanks for the reply

blood loss

they will have you on fluids, so for low blood pressure shouldn't be a problem, and as they cut they will burn the bleeders as they go and monitor your vitals and blood loss, with every surgery there is a risk, but it is very low. I have had several abdominal surgeries and had no trouble with blood loss. That is why they have you go through PAT testing with blood work and such and as long as you are not on blood thinners ( aspirin or others and no other major physical problems) you will be fine. Best of Luck to you we will keep you in our prayers.

I also only lost about 100cc's of blood. I was very anemic going into surgery so I was worried but everything was ok.

I had 3x the average blood loss and had a transfusion. I, too, have lower than average BP, but the surgery also took 3x as long as normal because my endo was "the consistancy of wood" to quote my surgeon, and he had to work hard to save my ureters which were plastered with my ovaries to my pelvis.
