TAH: Op was tomorrow - now cancelled

Had a call from the hospital about six o'clock to say my operation had been cancelled. Said they had a large number of emergencies to contend with and didn't have a bed for me. I felt numb when I took the phone call almost as if it was happening to someone else. I have been busy preparing all week, cleaning, cooking meals etc had my DVT injection this afternoon. Guy on the phone was very apologetic he said they would be in touch by the early part of this week to reschedule. I have decided if I haven't heard anything by Wednesday I will contact my doctor.

Sorry to hear that your surgery was cancelled moyvane67. Emotional and physical preparation is hard for us all. My surgery was originally scheduled for March 14 and was re-scheduled due to concerns with the EKG I had during pre-op. So believe me when I say, I know how you feel.

Find peace in knowing that everything happens for a reason. Hang in there and best of luck in re-scheduling, soon!

Thanks, 31413 for your good wishes, everything does happen for a reason. I am a big believer in fate and tomorrow just wasn't meant to be. I feel really tired and drained tonight. I know I will feel better after a good nights sleep. My bag is in the bedroom packed and that it where it will stay!

I am so sorry your surgery was cancelled. I know that is very difficult.

I also believe that everything happens for a reason, and obviously the hospital could not have anticipated all of the emergency needs for the beds.

Sorry to hear that your surgery was cancelled, mine was cancelled as soon as I was about to walk to the or! The dr forgot to get medical clearance from my primary dr....I've been rescheduled for May 23rd. When I got home from the hospital (when they cancelled it) I was so drained and exhausted, I believe it was nerves among other emotions....Hope it all walks out for you and you don't have to do all your pre-op stuff again (I still have my bag packed too)

So frustrating, another part of this rollercoaster. Drained and exhausted is totally how I feel. So glad I am not in work until Wednesday afternoon as I don't think I could cope with putting on a face (pretending I am okay with it). I didn't realise how hard it is to prepare for this surgery physically, mentally and emotionally.

Contacted the hospital today. Operations cancelled yesterday and today. No new dates being issued until things calm down. Back to playing the waiting game!

New date is 3rd June.

This happened to me three times , it's been nearly two weeks post op , and all appears to be going well ,, try not to stress to much , it will all be over soon enough x

My surgery was also rescheduled, but at least I had more notice. I was originally scheduled for the day after Memorial Day (2000) and I was rescheduled for three days later. I was glad that I could have my Memorial Day BBQ dinner. I was prepared as you were, but managed ... and you will also.
Hang in there. It will be over before you know it.
