Any positive hysterectomy's out there?

HI,
I'm 29 yrs. old and have been dealing with endo. for the last 12 years. I have had numerous laps. to get rid of adhesions on organs, tried b.c pills but none worked, and am tired of the pain. I do not wish to ever have children and am concidering a partial hysterectomy. I would leave my ovaries and cervix of course. My concern is that I have read lot's of posts and everyone seems to have horror stories about getting a hysterectomy. Is there anyone out there that has had a positive outcome to getting one? Anyone my age going through recovery? I had a tubal done last year and have nothing but good things to say about the experience. I wish people would post some positive outcomes sometimes and not so much negative.

thanks!

Considering partial hyst for endo

TVH on 9/15/06 My experience was great! I wish I had surgery years ago when I started with heavy periods and then a prolapsed uterus.

I'm 49 and overweight. I was a little uncomfortable after surgery (no pain) and I was home for six weeks. I'm sure I could've gone to work sooner but was lucky enough to have the leave.

I kept my ovaries and gave up my cervix. Sex is great! Everything works.

Good luck to you!

Considering partial hyst for endo

Hi Sweetpea104,

I also had a partial hyst - a LSH. I am 3 yrs. post op now and I am still very pleased with my results. I was 46 when I had my hyst. In my opinion, I think your younger age might help in your recovery process. I went back to work at 2 weeks with my Dr's okay and I got a greenlight for all activities - including sex and the gym - at 6 weeks.

Sending best wishes~

Mary

People who have positive experiences don't need a site like Hyster Sisters once they are recovered and back to their normal lives. Thus, they are not here posting. The majority of the ladies posting here on the site are looking for pre op support and information, recovery information, and then help for continued problems post hyst.

There are positive stories and I personally know of several of them. But unfortunately, just knowing their positive story didn't give me a positive experience.

You can read through the Beyond the Land of Hyster forum where some ladies do come back to post how well they are doing years down the road.

Do keep in mind that there is not cure for endo, not even a hyst, so if you do have continued problems post hyst we have an Endometriosis Support that might be helpful.

Is your doctor an endometriosis specialist? Have you had a second opinion regarding having a hyst?

I wish you all the best and hope you find the support and information you are looking for. Unfortunately I can give you information regarding Endometriosis, but from personal experience I do not have a "happily ever after" story to share.

Considering partial hyst for endo

I have read many positive hyster stories, and mine is one too. After having a tubal ligation in 10/2006, I developed prolonged painful very heavy periods, and for the last 4 months I was getting sick afterwards due to the blood loss. Well, I investigated my options, decided what would be my best move and approached my dr about it. She examined me, and agreed the hyster would be the best thing. Not to say that I wasn't terrified to have the surgery, but I am always a nervous wreck about it.

I was pre-medicated in the Pre-op area as my nerves were strung so tight you could have bounced a quarter off me. I remember going toward the OR looking at the lights going by and that's the last thing I remember until I woke up in recovery. They handled my pain management beautifully, I had my TVH at 8:30 AM and was up walking to the bathroom by 1 PM. (Yes, that was my choice to get up and go as my body doesn't tolerate the catheter well so I had them take it out) I was allowed to leave the castle the next day and was home before lunchtime. Other than certain aches and pains that I had already expected my recovery was great. I am nearly 5 weeks out and my dr has already released me to return to all my normal activities except for sex. That has to wait at least another 2 - 3 weeks as my stitches haven't dissolved completely yet.

I can honestly say this was the best thing I could have ever done for myself. I still have my ovaries, but I will never have to suffer through another horrible period. I haven't had any negative side effects from it either.

I hope you see that there are many of us who have done very very well.

Don't be afraid to ask your doctor or the sisters here about anything. We try to help.

Good Luck!
