Upcoming hysterectomy 3/28: Elevated ALT Before Surgery?

I did my pre-op testing today. Everything is totally fine...except my ALT levels. They are barely elevated (just 12 over the "normal").

Has anyone else have this happen? Did they cancel your surgery?

I'm thinking it might be elevated because I'm on a low carb diet or it could possibly be exercise induced. I know it's usually a LOT higher if there's something like vomiting. Just curious what others experienced. Haven't talked to my doctor's office yet.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 3/28: Elevated ALT Before Surgery?

Hi Sciona,
I will be tagging along with Anndy as a Sunshine Sister for your Recovery Week Thread.
Your liver enzymes, ALT and AST, can be elevated in a more normal situation with muscle damage, such as aggressive exercise or injury (I suspect adenomyosis could fit in here as well) and with the use of medications that are processed by the liver.
If you have your results already, your surgeon should have them too and a quick call to their office would allow you to know what they are thinking.
and prayers as you continue to prepare.
DH

Always remember your health care providers are the ones that know you and your needs and should be your best resource for answers to your questions.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 3/28: Elevated ALT Before Surgery?

Thank you! I have a call scheduled at 3:30 for patient education and I'm sure I will find out exactly what's going on during that call. I'm suspecting injury because I do run and I've had some major shin splint issues. I just wanted to prepare myself emotionally if they were likely to cancel...but my initial research here and on other sites seems to indicate it's not likely to be a problem.

I will check back in after my call. I just can't believe everything seems to be going through so smoothly!

One of mine, do not remember which one, was slightly elevated and no issue at all. Good luck with your surgery.
