Scheduled LAVH Cinco de Mayo

Hi: I hope I'm doing this right. I am having a hysterectomy this Friday (in two days). I am 39 and had my tubes tied ten years ago. I am a (self-proclaimed) "non-breeder by choice". But this is still strange. Not life-ending, but strange. I just thought I'd chime in and get some support from those who might not just sit there and stare at me when I talk about it being odd. Thanks for listening.

Hi SoontobeNP,
Nobody here will look at you funny! Did you just find out your surgery is in 2 days? If it was me, I'd still be in shock!!

No, I've known for maybe two weeks... I don't really know exactly I just finished the semester and my brain is still somewhat fried. I'm a grad student. Anyway, I've known for a bit, but b/c the surgery is Friday am starting to feel strange. Like I said, I was rather in the market to get this uterus out b/c (and remember I'm a nurse my feeling is "all it can do is kill me". And I am choosing not to use it for its intended purpose... but like I said... just starting to feel more anxious and strange.

BTW, a bit of history, since I am in the "medical field" this gynie is a friend of a radiologist friend who originally saw me to see if we could find a "reason" to remove my uterus. In the last 4-6 months I starting hemorrhaging with each mentrual cycle with back pain... but my BIGGEST complaint is dyspareunia (pain with intercourse) and my PCP was not very helpful, so I went to see my friend's friend after my friend talked to her in the hospital one day. It has been very fortuitous all along. But it turns out my CA 125 is mildly elevated, consistent with endometriosis. So we actually had a reason to do the hysterectomy! Anyway, as several of my friends say it's what I want... but I just feel more anxious as Friday (my anniversary) approaches.
Whew! I have a lot to say about this apparently
Catherine
