Re: Robotic Surgery
"I was released to drive and resume lifting "
You are only 12 days post-0p--!!!
Caveat: NO lifting 5lbs or more for at least 6 weeks is the general rule. Driving ok if you don't have difficulties with your foot handling the brake.
DON't overdue yourself. There is no difference between the robotic vs laparoscopic surgery as the HEALING time!!!!!!!
The adhesions that will form as a natural result of surgery can be significantly increased by too much, or too earliy activity. Please read up on adhesions and their possible adverse impact.

Re: Robotic Surgery
giselher: Thank you for your concern! You bring up a very good point! Doing too much; too soon can be incredibly counter-productive to recovery!
I should have been more specific as to my situation. While I was released to do all that stuff, I do intend to listen to my body and use common sense, too. My Mom would kick my butt if she found out I had lifted something more than a gallon of milk--and she has said she will be doing the laundry and taking out the trash when she visits. I have no place I have to drive to, so today I am quite content in my big chair with movies and my laptop.

Re: Robotic Surgery
As I said in my previous post - I wasn't up and about so quick with my surgery. However, It was a hysterectomy with reconstruction, (over 8 hours in OR). They never even attempted to get me out of bed for 24 hours (I was sleeping almost the entire 24 hours). That said, I think the reason my surgery felt more difficult wasn't the surgery itself, but complications I had with my bowels (wouldn't wake up) catheter and kidney infections. I would however choose this method again over an open incision.
My doctor did not even need to scrub. He was able to leave the operating room and update my DH all throughout my surgery. I had 5 incisions, with 2 of them an inch or so in size, the other 3 were 1/2 inch or less.
As far as insurance - I'm the one with the $109,000 bill! The insurance company has not yet adjusted it, but from what I read, they have to code my surgery the same as a lapaoscopic.

Re: Robotic Surgery
I had a robotic myomectomy on 4-22-09 to remove 7 fibroids. I spent the night in the hospital, missed 4 days of work and was released today to normal activity as I feel up to it, except no sit-ups for 30 days. If I had the traditional myomectomy they would have opened me up just like with a c-section and my recovery time would have been 6-8 weeks. I have five insisions that are all under 1/2 inch.
I live in a city with two hospitals and a medical school so everything is state of the art in the medical field. The robot was purchased for the heart surgery unit of the hospital, but I was told it is used for pretty much every type of surgery now.
The surgen who perfoms the procedure must be trained in using the robot and there were at least 10 people total in the room assisting. I am not sure what the cost was, everything was pre-certified with my insurance by the Drs. office.
