Surgery soon and I am very nervous!

I am only a couple of days away from surgery and I am getting more and more nervous. In a way, I am excited because I will be SO relieved to get rid of the long and miserable periods I have been having, but at the same time, I am scared that I might not wake up from the surgery and also of the pain that might be involved (if I do) ;-) What if they give me too much anesthesia??? I am having this done at a "smaller" hospital (a town of 60,000)..the hospital where I delivered my daughter 6 years ago with the same doctor that delivered her. I am just really nervous and don't know what to do with myself for the next few days lol My pre-op check up is Thursday. My surgery is 8 a.m. Friday and I will stay in hospital for 2 nights (abdominal incision). My doctor wants abdominal because I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer two years ago and she wants to go in and "look around" (what she's looking for is metastasis, which hopefully I don't have!! all check ups for the last two years have been great)...so now I worry that I will wake up from surgery to her words, "I'm sorry Kim, but..." Ahhhhh I am usually not such a negative thinker, but I am starting to freak out here a little :-O Sorry to ramble! Any advice for me, the biggest worrywart on the planet???

Surgery soon and I am very nervous!

First off...remember to breathe Now, I think we have all been in that spot, or are quickly getting there too (My surgery is scheduled for the 21st). I am having my surgery at a small hospital too, and I kinda like that because I know some of the nurses there and it is close to my hubby's work. (He will be off as soon as I come home) This is great place for support and info. I am so glad I found it.

Surgery soon and I am very nervous!

Mine is also first thing Friday morning, Kim.
I am so nervous, I am allergic to the anesthetic (they have to combat immediately with a heavy dose of benadryl when I react, which is usually as I am starting to wake up...) and allergic to morphine and pennicillin so my fear is something going terribly wrong with one of those issues.
I know the pain (From having so many abdominal surgeries in the past) is going to be there, but it really is temporary.

I am just trying to get myself past the initial iv hookups... and surgery itself... then that first walk afterwards and I will be ok.
You will do great! I am sure of it!!!

Thinking great thoughts for my fellow hyster sister!

Surgery soon and I am very nervous!

Kim,
Everything will be fine. You wouldn't be human if you weren't nervous, but don't second guess yourself.
You are going to wake up after surgery and feel relieved that it is over (the waiting was the worst part for me)
You are going to feel 100x better after the surgery-life without long periods and pain...ahhhh just keep thinking about that
Best of Luck to you on Friday** HUGS***

Surgery soon and I am very nervous!

Kim, I definitely think that the last couple of days wait is the most difficult. The anticipating the what if's etc. Once you get in there and the ball starts rolling you'll be fine, remember those deep cleansing breaths and try to think happy thoughts. It'll bee over before you know it and you'll be on the road to recovery...freedom!

Best of luck

Surgery soon and I am very nervous!

I was nervous, too. It's normal! I kept saying this mantra to myself before I had my TAH/BSO: "I will be healthy and strong. The doctors know what they're doing." I prayed alot, too! This was my first surgery ever and I was really afraid. But, it wasn't as bad as I thought. I have no tolerance for pain so I just kept pushing that pain button! Just breathe and picture yourself free of painful periods, living a healthier life! You're stronger than you could ever imagine. Take care!
