Surgery scheduled, but I'm really getting scared!

Wow - so much info. Am scheduled for LAVH AND TVT on May 16. 50 yrs. old and having terrible backaches, cramps, etc. due to uterus of a 16-18 wk pregnancy. VERY large fibroids 4 the size of baseballs. Jumping straight to the major job 'cause I am not one to mess around - but am really getting scared.

Surgery scheduled, but I'm really getting scared!

Hi scrappyhappy and

We're happy you joined the Hystersisters community! There is a ton of solid information on the site, and the members have unlimited cyber-hugs to dispense to you at all stages of your journey to good health!

Being scared is natural...a hysterectomy is major surgery and despite its relative safety, there are still plenty of things to be afraid of. Be sure to share your fears here, because those of us who have been through it as well as those in the same boat as you can offer a lot of support and encouragement.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery!

Many s to you,

Surgery scheduled, but I'm really getting scared!

I was terrified, too. And I had a huge uterus full of fibroids just like you. (I was told it weighed 3 pounds after it was removed-yikes.)

The morning of my surgery, my wonderful anesthesiologist gave me something he called "I don't care medicine". (I had been crying and was very upset.) It really helped. In retrospect, maybe I should have asked the doc for a mild anti-anxiety drug for time leading up to the surgery. You might do this. It may be something that can help keep the edge off.

I will be praying for you.
