Breakfast morning of bowel prep?

I've been given a lot of instructions and information the past couple of weeks but I cannot remember, nor is it on my info sheet, about whether or not I can eat breakfast the day of my bowel prep?

Hubby and I are going away early tomorrow morning; he is taking me to a B&B by a lake that I love and we're going dancing and then to the casinos...LOL He wanted to get my mind off Monday as much as possible. The B&B serves up a lovely breakfast, though, and I would love to partake of it Sunday morning. My instructions just tell me to start drinking the magnesium citrate "anywhere from 8 a.m. until noon and then clear liquids afterwards (with a list of approved clear liquids). Well geez--given that frame, why would I start it at 8 a.m. if I'm allowed up until noon? LOL

It does not say if I can or cannot have breakfast before beginning the bowel prep. Have any of you ladies eaten the day of your prep? The B&B starts serving at 7 a.m., I would have a very light, non-greasy breakfast and then we're heading home and I will begin the prep by 11 or so. Should this be okay? I don't want anything to hinder Monday's surgery; I surely want the magnesium citrate to "do its job."

Re: Breakfast morning of bowel prep?

Obviously, you want to do the bowel prep when you are home.

I can only tell you what my instructions were. The day before surgery I was to have a light breakfast and lunch, and then clear liquids after that. I was to start my bowel prep at 4 PM.

I would call your doctor and ask. Like any other instructions, you want to do this right. I agree with you that it is a weird instruction of starting the prep between 8 AM and 11 AM.

Good luck.

Re: Breakfast morning of bowel prep?

I have been "blessed" lol to have 2 bowel preps already this year and having to have another one before my surgery on the 28th. My advice to you is to eat some items that can pass through you easily a day or two before. What you might want to ask is if you can have a swallow of ginger ale each time you have to drink some of the prep. The ones I've had to take taste AWFUL!! It isn't a pleasant thing to have to take, but trust me it is for the best. Hang in there and good luck on your surgery. I'll be praying for you and your dr's. so everything goes okay.

Re: Breakfast morning of bowel prep?

I highly suggest you eat very light the day of your bowel prep. As a matter of fact, I would eat light several days before.

Call your doctor and ask. I was to eat lightly the day before my surgery. Broth, jello, etc. Doc said plain pasta and rice was okay. You need to ask your own doctor what is and isn't okay for you the day before surgery. You can specifically ask about the breakfast at the B&B.

P.S. A very lovely gift from your dh. I hope you have a nice, relaxing stay.
