Re: Am I Too Young?

Your only too young if you feel you are too young. I would say you have to weigh the pros and cons. How will it affect you to not have children? How will it affect you to put up with the pain? Search your other options as well and make an informed decision. It is not an easy one to make and as much as we would all love to be able to wave a magic wand and have the right decision pop out in front of us it just doesn't happen We are all her to support you and help you find answers though.

Love and hugs to you!

Re: Am I Too Young?

I definitely think you need to find a doctor willing to really listen to you.
I was sure of what I wanted and had considered all of my options and discussed it at length with my doctor before my surgery. Being 30 they also tried telling me I was too young, but the longer I waited the worse my symptoms were. I finally found a doctor who listened, but I had to be an informed patient.
Good luck on your search.

Re: Am I Too Young?

im 24 and my surgery is scheduled!! i had to fight my insurance for 4 months to get it but i finaly won the battle!!
i have issues with ovarian cycts and the only time i didnt have them was when i was pregnant. But after having 2 c-sections the scar tissue on my uterus grew like wild fire and has been plagueing me for almost 4 years now. i had spoke to my doctor about a possible hyster after my first son i was 21 at the time he said there was no way my insurance would cover it. so since i couldnt get my hyster i was bound and determined to put my uterus to work since it was already cousing me so much pain. after our second son was born 1 year ago the pain has gotten worse and finaly my insurance was willing to cover my hyster.
I would think having someone to help advocate for you would help your situation bring your mom or your dad or a sibling to your visits with you,but honestly at this point i think i would be looking for a new doctor, your doc is the one who should be truly advocating for you and looking out for your best intrest.
good luck!! keep us posted!

Re: Am I Too Young?

I do have a few suggestions.

First, keep a symptom diary and be as detailed as you can be. If you can show your doctor(s) what you are living with on a day to day basis it can help them determine the most appropriate treatment route for you. You might like using ReliefInsite's online pain diary and/or it can give you some ideas of the type of information to include. The more information you can share with your doctors, the better able they can "see" what might be going on, helping them offer you the best options.

Keep records of all tests and surgeries and what was found. Also, keep a list of all the options you have tried and how they affected you.

Get a second opinion from a doctor who does not practice obstetrics and who will listen to your concerns. Since you have endometriosis, I would highly recommend an endometriosis specialist. For the PCOS, a type of endocrinologist could be a good choice. If you hit jackpot, you might find an endo specialist who is a reproductive endocrinologist as mine is!

Finally, research each of your diagnoses so you can sit down and talk to your doctors intelligently about each one and how the options for each would benefit or not benefit you and what the pros and cons of each would be for your overall health situation that includes multiple issues. Going in with knowledge can help you partner with your doctor.

I definitely do NOT advocate ANY woman getting pregnant to try to "cure" a health condition. That is not a reason to bring a child into this world whether a woman wants to have her own children or not.

You do need to know that neither endometriosis or PCOS are cured with a hysterectomy or oophorectomy. Additionally, both could cause some complex issues with or without your ovaries so you do want to be informed in this area as well.

I hope this helps a bit!

Re: Am I Too Young?

I can't believe they are suggesting getting pregnant as a relief for your symptoms! Not only because it may or may not actually work temporarily- but also, as Weiser said, that is no reason to bring a child in to this world- but even more importantly for you, even if you desperately wanted one right now and had a partner to have one with, how easy would that even be for you? I have numerous friends with "just" PCOS and they all had some difficulty getting pregnant- and you have that and then some! They make it sound like that would be a simple fix for you when it could just potentially cause even more heartache and pain!

I am so sorry they are making this so difficult for you- I hope you get the answers and help you need soon.

I agree with this 100%
is there any way you could seek a second opinion? to start i would search for docs on your area that accept your insurance and see if you can get a referal.i feel your pain and i hope this can be resolved if its with a hyster or even with some other kind of alternative surgery.
good luck!
