CIN III - Probable Hyst here....stories?
Hello, Im brand new here, and was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to share their own experiences with me. I found out 2 days ago that I have CIN III. My gyn would prefer to do a LEEP procedure, but I am an all or none kind of girl, and I am thinking a hysterectomy instead. She did say that it was an option, and though she thinks I am too young (27 next month), she said that she wouldnt refuse me. She has asked me to wait a month to make that decision, and though I am *not* a patient person lol, I agreed to readily. I would like to make an informed decision, and along with all my other research, I thought that after running across this site, that you lovely ladies would possibly be able to lend me some support in the matter. My decision is mostly made, I wont lie. I know it is not an off the cuff kind of decision that should be made, but I feel that it is the option for me, and it feels like the right thing to do.

CIN III - Probable Hyst here....stories?
When my Dr recommended a LEEP, I felt kind of like you. I thought why not just do the hyster. I did a lot of googling, and was pretty scared of the procedure in general. But then I started talking to my friends and family about it, and found out lots of women I know have had it done. One friend had the LEEP and has had normal paps since. Another friend had to have the LEEP and then a cone biopsy, and has had normal paps since. So after talking to them, and others, I decided if this procedure could get rid of the cells I would do it. Its a breeze compared to a hyster! I think its worth a try. No anesthesia. There is pain, but it was no worse than my period really. I had it on a Friday and was back at work Monday like nothing happened. Sadly for me, the cancer was deeper than the LEEP margins, so then I had to have the hyster. Good luck! I'm glad you're thinking about it and asking others. A hyster is a huge decision. Are you having any other problems?

CIN III - Probable Hyst here....stories?
Hi Kyla,
I had a LEEP procedure for CIN111 in December 2003 and everything has come back clear since. The procedure was straight forward and I have no regrets whatsoever. I do get nervous at each pap smear time but I think that's par for the course with woman who have had abnormal results in the past. Good luck with your decision. Do explore the LEEP path a bit more is my only words of advice.

I had my Leep done a week and a half ago. It wasn't painful just uncomfortable. The worst part has been the never ending varying discharges. Because there were some questionable margins in the endocervix I will be having the hysterectomy done next month. I really wasn't up for the risk of having a Leep done every three months if it were to come back. Then I am 38 years old and most certainly done with having children.
I would suggest getting a copy of your pathology reports and a second opinion from a gyn/onco. Then make your decision.

CIN III - Probable Hyst here....stories?
Hello. I'm sorry you are having to face these issues, but so glad you found this website!
Please learn a lot more about HPV while you are making your decision. Like you, I originally thought, hey, if I have these cervical issues, then I'll just get a hyst and be done with it! It's not that easy with cervical issues. Cervical problems are caused by HPV. And HPV is with you, even after the surgery. HPV is creating havoc in your immune system just now. Getting the hyst would get rid of the troublesome cells for a time, but as the high risk strains of the HPVs that cause cervical cancer will not be eradicated (they are viruses, not growths), you will still need to work on your immune system, if possible, until your body can ward off the incursions of the HPVs.
Read my signature line and you can get the picture. Even though I had the surgery, I still came up with abnormal cell changes.
I began with cone section one year, cone section and D and C the next year, then hyst, because of problems also with ovaries.
The usual pattern would be for you to get a LEEP procedure at your age. Then, if abnormalities continue, another LEEP procedure. Then, probably a cone section, and then probably a hyst, IF abnormalities continue. Most women clear the abnormalities; their immune systems kick in and kick the butt of the viruses causing the problems.
You are quite young to make such a decision. Why not avoid closing off your options to have children until you are closer to menopause, if it's that you would eventually like a hyst for some reason.
In the meantime, it would really really help you to learn what you can about HPV, so you understand better what you are dealing with.
Good wishes to you.

And keep in mind, just because you have a hysterectomy does not mean you never have to worry again. Even though they remove the cervix, you'll still need yearly exams. From now on I will have "pap smears" done on my vagina.

Kyla,
I'm glad you are seeking further information before making your final decision. I'd also like to recommend you seek another opinon and if feasible from a gyn/onc. CIN III has been discussed in our CC forum and you are most welcome to post any questions there. Pls keep us posted.

I agree with the above two post. You will still have a risk of the cells growing elsewhere. Hysterectomy isn't a cure all. I think if I were ten years younger I would choose a different route and go with the more frequent check ups.
