Re: Help with the husband
I asked my husband if he thought the hospital would let me keep my uterus and ovaries. Obviously they don't but we were just joking. Then I told him I was going to bring the organs home and bury them in the back yard next to my kitty and create a shrine for them and go visit them every day. He told me I was crazy. So I asked him what he would do if a doc removed his penis and testicles? Then he got it. Men just need it turned into something they can understand.
Fortunately, my husband has had surgery recently and is still out of work and will be there to take care of me after surgery. And I think what another sister wrote about the longer it takes to heal the longer it is until sex is ok is a great way to put it. This is major surgery. Why the heck else would we need our sisters for support?

Re: Help with the husband
Taking your husband for pre-op's will be a big help. Mine was with me when I had my visit to go over test results, so he was there to hear everything the dr said and he at that time seemed to finally "get it". He became my biggest support and cheerleader!

Re: Help with the husband
I am so hoping that my dh will surprise me as many of yours did! Last night when i was explaining that he will have to let the dog out and wait with her outside until she "goes" (or she won't go, she just runs to the door and leans against it if you try to go back in- she can hold it for HOURS- i've tried to out wait her) He said "don't be so dramatic , you're not going to be laid up around here doing nothing for 5 weeks...you'll have to just put your boots on and let her out yourself!"
I mean really...he sounds like a neanderthol
when i brought it up later he denied saying it/meaning it like that and took me out for supper
I am worried though, he for sure doesn't get it
i think i'll print off the restrictions at the time

Re: Help with the husband
Or show him the video from the hospitals that are online & he may be more willing to help you. I would suggest you NOT watch them until after your surgery.

Re: Help with the husband
I had my husband read the Hysterectomy Checkpoints that is available on this website. We kept it near the bed and he checked it regularly during my recovery. The "no lifting" rule was strictly enforced!
