How do I find a good doctor?

I was referred to a surgeon last week by my GYN for a probable hysterectomy. Problem is, I didn't like the guy he referred me to so I'm trying to find another. Actually I never even met the doc but his office staff was very off-putting and his office is over an hour away so I'd like to look elsewhere

How do I go about this? I'm having trouble finding anything online. Can anyone here offer me suggestions on how/where to look, and if you're in the Dallas, Fort Worth area and have a suggestion, feel free to PM me.

This is all quite overwhelming. I am new here so if this thread is in the wrong spot, please let me know and I'll move it.

Re: How do I find a good doctor?

The only suggestion I can give you is to look for names that your insurance covers and then do a google search on the Dr's that you find. I actually did that when searching for a new gynecologist. I had a choice between A LOT of Dr's and it did take time to read through reviews but I'm glad I went with the one I did. He then referred me to my gyn oncologist and I did a lot of research on her before my first appt as well.

The way I like to find a doctor is to look at:

healthgrades.com

You can search in your area for doctors, hospitals, specialties, and procedures. You can see reviews from patients, wait times, scheduling, and staff. It will also show education and background checks. Good Luck!

Re: How do I find a good doctor?

I knew the doctor I wanted cause I had friends that had been treated by him.
So, friends and word of mouth is a good method. Additionally, I did research on his reputation online and found he had many good reviews.
I felt I was in good hands. This doctor seems to prefer TVH and I am recovering very well.

Re: How do I find a good doctor?

Even though I am no longer in Texas, it's only been since June :-) there is a Dr who delivered my youngest via c-section. I adored him and so did my friend. The office staff is amazing as well. There are 2 hospitals he works out of, Texas Regional off 75 and the newish hospital off 190 going out towards Carrollton I believe. :-)
