July 23-30 Sisters

Hey ladies! I know there are many of you out there!

I'm 35, scheduled for TAH / TVT-O this week (July 24). Have been dealing with horrible periods, heavy bleeding/clotting, and severe bloating for over two years now.

I've been really anxious for the big day ... that is, until yesterday. I had my final pre-op appt, lab work, anethesist consultation, etc, and all went well. Yesterday was also my last day of work until Sept 10th (if all goes well). So it is really sinking in now. I'm getting nervous. I've had several surgeries before, had epidurals with my pregnancies, am not afraid of hospitals, needles, or anethesia. Never been this nervous prior to any other procedures. I love my Dr. and completely trust her. My house is in order, I'm basically packed, and DS is off to G&G's for the next week. DH is an absolute saint .... extremely supportive, and I have lots of great family and friends around to help too.

So, I don't know why I'm so stressed! I'm extremely nervous, depressed, and hormonal right now. Don't know how I'm going to make it through the next 3 days. Heck, I even started sobbing while watching Doc Hollywood earlier. Just don't know what to do to pass the time.

So, figured there are some of you out there who are probably headed to the castle this week, and may be having the same issues. Any of you feeling this way? Am I going crazy?

If you're crazy, I'm in the boat with you. Might as well have fun on the trip! I too am having a TAH-BSO tomorrow (July 24th) and my emotions have been all over the board. I broke down in my boss's office Thursday and that wasn't pretty. Luckily, his wife just went through the same thing and he was very understanding. DH is wonderful and will be an enormous help and support. DD is 5 and really wants to help, but I'm afraid she'll be in the way more than help when I get home. Anyway, good luck to you! God bless!

Hi Jen,

Sorry to hear you are so stressed and nervous. I have had a couple of surgeries as well. I can tell that this time feels different, though, as I am actually losing part of my original 'equipment' (ie. my uterus and probably at least one ovary).

I just had my pre-op this morning, and all is now set for surgery next Tuesday. It has helped me that I just had a wonderful trip to the beach for a mini vacation. Is it possible for you to do some sort of mini trip that will be fun and out of the ordinary routine? I think this would do wonders for you. Also, I am meeting with some friends tomorrow who are going to pray for my upcoming surgery. I hope and pray that all goes well with your surgery, and that you will be able to relax/sleep/enjoy some fun moment in the meantime! Just think.... no more bleeding or bloating like you've been doing for 2 whole years!!!!

It will be over very soon, and then you'll be sharing your post-op story with us from the other side.

Hugs to you in the meantime!!

Brenda

Thanks girls! FINALLY ... it's almost here. I am still stressed, but today was a good day. Spent all day with DH ... out to breakfast, then to the store. Did some cleaning and laundry and packing. I am so ready! I'll check back in when I get to the "other side"! Best wishes to you all!

Wow! Here I am! Just 18 short hours after my surgery and home already!

My surgery (LAVH) was the 24th at 2:00. I was in recovery by 4:30 and back in the same day admission by 5:00. It was a restless night, because they didn't give me my own room. I got a total of 3 hours sleep and spent most of the night and and .

This is the first time that they have released anyone under 24 hours. I'm feeling pretty good. The doctor did find endometriosis, which we both suspected. He was able to take it all out with the LAVH though. Amazingly enough the only real pain I am having is from the gas. It's been sitting at the bottom of my rib cage for about 10 hours now and is really starting to annoy me.

Well, off I go with my intercom in hand. DH really knows how to take care of me when I'm sick.

Best of luck to all of my fellow princesses out there! Be well!

just got home & feeling great

had my surgery yesterday around 1030am. took little over 2 hours. l had to spend about 3 hours in recovery cuz it just takes me longer than most to wakeup. doc did LAVH and a bladder sling. don't remember anything till i was in my room around 4 pm...pain free!! anesthesiologist shot some kind med in my spinal chord and it didn't start wearing off till a little while ago. i took vicadin as soon as i felt some twinges, so i'm still virtually pain free. i feel a little sore, but i've stubbed my toe and felt more discomfort than with this surgery!! nurse took the catheter out this morning and thank goodness i'm not having any trouble peeing!! otherwise doc was gonna send me home with a catheter till monday (so hooray for my newly slung bladder!). i got to see pics of my uterus which was the size of a 4 month pregnancy and very lumpy looking due to all the fibroids. so all in all, i'm doing great, waaaaaaaaay better than i could have imagined!!! the waiting for 6 weeks was by far the worst part! take heart ladies...it will soon over and you'll be sitting in your own comfy recliner in front of the big screen with your laptop in your lap trying to type through a drug induced fog!!
great big hugs to everyone!

I was discharged home yesterday from my TAH/RSO on Monday, and I'm afraid to jinx myself by saying that I'm feeling pretty good. Pain control is A-OK, my husband has fed the family AND done laundry, and dun-dun-DUN...I've had my first two BMs without incident. My only complaint? The JP drain I have in is kind of a pain. I'd say "pain in the rear" but it's quite literally a pain in my abdomen. It is SO in my way. Every time I go to the bathroom, it falls out of my undies (which really smarts). It looks like I'm smuggling an apple in my underwear. Cleaning the drain is uncomfortable too because it just increases the suction in my stomach. I get to go to the doctor tomorrow, and hopefully he'll be taking the drain out. Keeping my fingers crossed that recovery stays like this because this is do-able!

Just going to keep hanging in there!

Yay, I'm done!

Hello I returned home today after having surgery on Monday @ 11am.
Didn't fare too well w/waking up from the anesthesia and tolerating Morphine IM shots for pain... But am now returning to the "land of the living' .
What really worked to turn around the N/V was good old Phenergan Suppositories... They have removed it in the IV and IM form, but not in the PO or Supp... Be sure and ask for it early if you need it.!! I feel as though I lost a blackbelt fight in my gallbladder area, but that is just the referrred pain...
I am walking lots and drinking cranberry juice mixed w/sprite.. it is a nice change from plain water...

TVH w/posterior repair... fibroids etc..
