vaginal cuff seroma too !!!
Ok now what !
Today I was dx with a vaginal cuff seroma. I have been asking about that drainage for 2 months.
I did a search and it seems that no one has had one on the cuff.
here are my questions I am seeing two doctors a uro and gyn I need cystocele, rectocele and uthera repair surgery.one dr wants to drain the seroma and the other says that I need to get it all taken care of during the sugery to take of the repair. 1 st to drain they are talking about putting a needle through the abd to drain (or bottom) do another ct scan see if the the fluid is there again if so drain again and so on then a couple weeks after that do the surgery for repairs.
I am not sure. Seems to me that that is alot of potential draining.
any input help!
thanks Michele

vaginal cuff seroma too !!!
Michele,
First off, big s, I am soo glad you got a DR to listen to you! and find out what's up with all this draining.
I haven't much experience with seromas but I did think up a couple of questions that might help in your quest for a decision:
Have the DRs tried discussing with each other how they each feel and what is in your best interest? Could they relate that input to you?
Do you have time for a third opinion as a nuetral party?
What are their pros and cons if they can't come to terms with what they believe is in your best interest?
How do you feel about the descriptions they have given you?
Some of these questions of course needn't be answered by you, but how much easier would it make your decision if they answered them for you.
I know how frustrating it is to have to make yet another health decision but these choices are ones that real soon will have you off this road and living life to its fullest again.
Big s and ers for a real resolution and peace in your decision,
lenee

vaginal cuff seroma too !!!
(((((((Michele))))))))
I so feel for you and the decision you have to make here. I have had the drains your talking about. It's called a prectuaneous drain. Only mine was for multiple abscesses. You might have better luck in your search if you type in abscess. There have been only a few here on the site that have had this myself included. I know well the frustration your going thru in trying to get rid of it.
Using the drains in my personal opinion would be a last resort knowing what I know now. The drains and the prodcedure are not a sure fire way to get rid of it. Even after having the drain it came back anyway and I ended up having to have it taken care of during my LSO.
I can understand your doc's concerns tho about trying to get rid of the seroma/abscess before doing surgery for the other repairs. You really do need to weigh the pros and cons of each as Lenee suggested. I found this at WebMd to give you a definition of what they want to do...
percutaneous "drainage" drainage
Miller-Keane Medical Dictionary, 2000
drainage of an abscess or collection of fluid by means of a catheter inserted through the skin and positioned under the guidance of computed tomography or ultrasonography.
I hope it does help to know that someone else has gone thru this..if there is anything I can help with I'll sure try.
Tons and tons of 's

Hi,
Wow, I understand how you would be uncertain. Here's my take on all this, and I am a sister who had hyst and Burch bladder procedure, and the Burch failed, a rectocele repair 8 months after the hyst and now almost 4 weeks post-op from bladder sling surgery. I would want to know, just what do they hope to accomplish with the draining, is it painful and will it bring a sure fix? And, if it is possible to fix the seroma during your operation, without all the drainingand waiting for these other tests. If it were me, I would want to know for sure, and if I knew I was definitely having surgery, I would want to get the surgery over with and have it all taken care of. It may be that even with the draining they will have to repair the cuff anyway, so ask all your questions. Keep us posted.
Love, Light, Blessings

So now we are at square one again. I went Friday to get teh seroma drained. I got all preped and was given the drugs got on the ct scan table and they started the scan I was so out of it I can't even remember it clearly. any the radiologist dr came in and said that she did not like what she saw. She could not see the seroma but saw a very dence pocket of blood that she thought was my rt ovary. Off to get a vag ultra sound I went. THe women said that there was a cyst onthe ovary and that was all she was they called it a hemrogerric (sp ) cyst they called the dr and the radiologist and him decided to do nothing. Maybe the drugs I am not too sure but I started crying then and haven't stopped. My Dh talked tothe dr fruday afternoon and he said taht he wanted another ct done in a couple weeks. untill then just to hang in there.....WELL I do not think I can The rectocele and the cystocele are driving me cravy ont to mention the burning pain I have inthe left and mid pelvic area (darn what is that) I am almost crazy ! help please.

vaginal cuff seroma too !!!
(((((((((((Michele))))))))))))
I'm so sorry to hear you went thru all of that and didn't get anywhere!!!! I think at this point I would be really mad!!
In my personal opinion...I would do one of two things...or maybe even both sweetie..Call the other doc and let him know how much pain your in from the rect/and cysetocal...tell him you aren't getting anywhere with the other doc. Then if that doesn't work or he tells you to wait...I'd go to ER.
Going to ER could do several things...get you the help you need NOW..motivate these docs to do something for you and make you stop waiting...and they could possibly shed some light by doing thier own CT and ultra-sound. I don't know if I would go into great detail about what is going on....I'd let them know of course about the cystecole/rectacole but maybe just tell them your doc started the drain procedure but had to quit and now your in a lot of pain...they will investagate the pain and then it will be documented to your doc that you aren't handleing this at all. Sometimes it sends a message to the doc when you have to go to ER for help.
It's worth a shot sweetie...Or you could call and find another doc and get a second opinion....
lots of please let us know what you decide and what happens...we do care and will help where we can!!!!

thanks toolgrl
I did go to the ER last wednesday they gave me a great shot and I was out of pain for hours. but after talking to my dr they decided not to do any more scans or tests but to let him do the drain. ... but I did tell my dh that I wouls be returning to the Er if I was in that much pain agai he agreed. I do have one problem I am working and because of my job I drive most of the day so I can not take pain meds it is really bad by about 3:00 I feel like I am going to pass out. I think I have come up with a plan I am going to set up an appointment with the dr for the middle of the week and tell him I want to go on with the surgery in mid april that wikk give then time for a ct scan in a week or so and then will have a really good idea waht is going on in there I hope I can go that long but it seemed like the right way to go.
any suggestions
Michele

vaginal cuff seroma too !!!
It sounds like you know exactly what you want, I'll be praying that the DR will hear YOU and get you some relief as quickly as possible!!
I truly believe that with the quality of life issues you are having they would move on this quickly. Not being able to use pain meds due to work schedule is so hard on you, hopefully they can sympathize with that I sure do!
