Upcoming hysterectomy 3/8: Thought My Symptoms Were Just Typical of Perimenopause

Thanks to everyone on this site for the tremendous support. Just completed the intake interview at the hospital and I have my final pre-op appointment tomorrow, with surgery on Wednesday. I feel calm, assured, and know that my choice is the correct one. It's been 6 long months in the making. I just thought my symptoms were typical perimenopause (non-stop bleeding, cramping, swollen belly, hormonal, weight gain) and would have gone on believing that but for an MRI for a torn butt muscle that happened to capture excessive endometrial fluid. My ortho doc said "check it out." The pelvic then showed a left ovarian cyst and I was referred to a specialist by my gyno. At that exam, she said "forget the cyst, your uterus is prolapsing and is 3X the normal size, pushing on your bladder (well that explains the constant peeing and leaking)." And the rest is history. I have two grown daughters, a marriage that is still really fun after 21 years (though not for the past 6 months lol), and a supportive job and colleagues. In my mind, with my doctor's very thorough guidance and thoughts, my choice is clear. I guess my point is, don't be fooled by symptoms that you think or have been taught are "normal." When in doubt, check it out!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 3/8: Thought My Symptoms Were Just Typical of Perimenopause

Good luck to you tomorrow! I had similar symptoms and similar thoughts - I'm 42, so I figured all the crappy periods and bloating, etc. were perimenopause. Turns out I'm stunk up with fibroids and am scheduled for RAVH next week - 3/14.

Here's hoping we both feel better!
