Sorry - I feel like whining right now :(
I know that my problems, compared to that of the other Road Dwellers, are very minor... however, I've just about had it with the leaking!!!! There are times, and these are such times, when I leak the minute I'm standing... and not just a little I'm sick and tired of wearing pads... and even then, that's not enough.. but I don't want to graduate to diapers!!!
And I don't know why doctors in this area only think of doing urine tests to check for infections: I've had an infection before and leaking definately wasn't the main problem!!!!
And I guess it doesn't help that my whole family is coming down with another bout of flu... the second in two weeks... and it was snowing again yesterday.... and the arthritis pain is back
On the bright side (yes, there is one), I'm having the blood tests and urine tests done on the 16th and am seeing my doctor on May 22nd (she wanted 4 weeks between the date of the tests and the appointment in order to be sure that she has the tests results in) and the arthritis is effectively managed with the Celebrex. And my BP was down when I had it checked at the drugstore yesterday... so things aren't that bad... if only I could stop leaking

Oh, Dany, we are quite the pair this evening!!
I do know about the leaking. Don't suppose it makes you feel any better to know that mine got better after my hysterectomy - just repositioned my bladder. Lucky me! However, I did want to mention, if you don't already know, that there are pads (like Depends) that aren't diapers but hold more than a sanitary pad. I've even seen them in sample packs so you can try different kinds or 'strenghths' to see what is suitable for you. I used to use them and always carried a couple with me.
And you KNOW that no matter what anybody else's problems are, it doesn't diminish yours. You have a right to feel sad/frustrated/mad/whatever about your own situation.
I'm glad there are positives, too. I have them as well. But dang, sometimes things just get a little much!

(((((Dany))))), of course you have a right to feel bad about your problems! It doesn't matter how they compare to anyone else's.
I wish there were something we could do to shorten the time you have to wait between all these appointments. I can't help but think some vaginal estrogen would do you a world of good. Wish I could mail you a tube of my Premarin cream! But somehow I don't think it would make it over the border
(((Joselle))) had some great suggestions... I have also seen some special panties that are supposed to catch leaks and still look pretty, and they are washable too. I believe the As We Change catalog has some (they have a website too, www.aswechange.com). Another catalog that carries stuff like that is Dr. Leonard's. Hmm, what does it say about us that we are familiar with all the stores and catalogs that sell stuff for home health care and elderly care? Did we ever think this would be us?
Well thank goodness we are all in this thing together. We can laugh, cry, vent... it's all OK here! Hang in there sweetie, your sisters you!

-Linda

(((((((Dany)))))))
I'm sorry you are having a hard time right now sweetie
I have IC but dont have leakage problems - I can only imagine how you feel. I wish had one of those magic wands for you (one for me too, LOL). I know how exasperating it can get. I was looking at my calendar, and as usual I have a Dr. app. once a week almost the whole month.
I hope your athritis pain eases up soon - I've got advanced degenerative arthritis in my thumbs (also somewhat in my hands) so I know just how you feel. Hopefully the weather up there gets better - then you'll start to feeling better. I know that with me, bad, rainy weather makes the arthritis REALLY bad.
Take care & good luck with your tests & Dr. app.

Thanks for the and dear friends I knew about the pads that are made by the "diaper" companies. I personally use those made by "Poise" and, most of the time, they are just what I need.
(((Joselle)))) I'm so sorry you've been having a hard time of it I do hope you feel better real soon.
((((Linda)))) As you know I'm having my hormones tested, as well as a few other things, and I'm also thinking that some of my problems are hormonal. One thing I've noticed, recently, since I map my symptoms, is that the leakage seems to increase at the same time as the hot flashes and night sweats increase. For instance, right now, I'm having a lot of those. By the way, I know what you mean about all this insight in home health care equipement: somedays, I think I feel older than my mom does!!
(((Susan)))) I wish I could find that magic wand too!!! BTW my arthritic pain (wasn't "officially" diagnosed with arthritis) is worse in hot, damp weather, which is the kind of weather we usually get in the summer over here. In fact, I was ok all winter, to the point of completely stopping the meds. The bright side is that the meds are controlling the pain and, contrary to last year, I can lead a pretty normal, active life.
(((Dawn)))) Believe me, I'm looking for an opportunity to go back!!! So far, the only conference I'm aware of is way over... across the bridge... I can walk there LOL!!! And there's one in Paris, France, but the powers that be have already said NO to that one!!!
(((vbjacks5)))) thanks for the words of encouragement.
You know girls, just reading your comments made me feel better. That's what I love about this web site!!!

Hugs from the former leaking queen
Hi,
I'm sorry I'm late to your post and so very sorry you are dealing with this. The leaking was driving me crazy for almost a year prior to my bladder sling surgery which was 5 and a half weeks ago (time flies when you're having so much fun (not!). I had a burch procedure with my hyst in 2000. It worked for a while. At 8 months from the hyst I had a posterior repair for a rectocele and a lap for adhesions. That surgery helped the rectocele. Then, the leaking and stress incontinence reared its ugly head in April of last year, about 7 months after the posterior repair. My urogyn examined me at the time and said, oh my, I do think the Burch procedure has failed. Please try doing Kegels for 3 months and come back. Ok, did the Kegels all the time for 3 months, it helped only a tiny bit. Then my urogyn referred me to a urologist and said he thought the only thing that would help was a bladder sling. so I had to wait about a month before even seeing the urologist. I went to see him and he scheduled the cystoscopy, another 3 week wait. Then I had the cystoscopy and he determined that I did indeed have "mixed" incontinence meaning I would leak with or without stress incontinence. The urologist wanted me to try a round of meds before doing a surgery, since I had 2 in less than 2 years. He put me on Detrol (didn't work) Ditropan (didn't work) then imiprimine, which made me crazy (it's an antidepressant which suppossedly helps bladder ( and it didn't work. this all took a few months. I was disgusted. Finally the bladder sling surgery was scheduled. If you read any of my previous posts, my surgery was way more complicated than what the urologist had anticipated, he found adhesions (which he fixed he says cause he couldn't even get to my bladder right) and my bladder was stuck to my pelvic bone from the previous Burch procedure. He had to undo the previous surgery and then do the sling. A samll hole was caused in my bladder from having to remove sutures from the previous surgery and cut away adhesions. I had a foley for 23 days and also went crazy with that also. Now to the present - hooray, I am no longer leaking, I can cough and sneeze just in time for allergy season and am able to pee ok on my own. It was a rough, rough recovery for me with the bladder sling surgery, but in all honesty, at least at this point I beleive it worked. What I do know is that I feel waiting and waiting almost a year for this surgery made my situation worse. Beleive me I was not happy to have all these surgeries, none of us are. But, I wanted at least one more chance to try and fix my problems. Also, depending on your situation, I do feel the sling works better than the Burch, it did for me. Also, I know TVT is an option and less invasive, but my urologist didn't want to do that given my history and the failed previous surgery. I'm glad he didn't since without a bikini incision I don't think he would have been able to do the repair work that was needed once he really saw what was going on. I wanted to share this with you cause I know how frustrated you must be. Feel free to vent to me or email any time on this or anything else. I am hoping I am almost on the off ramp(3 years on the road is long enough) and hope you will be there too.
Love, Light, Blessings
