Rash around incision....

I am 9 days post-op and just noticed a rash around my incision (bikini cut).....

It looks like heat rash / razor burn and it is itching some.

I have been fighting some sort of upper respiratory bug the past two days and have had a fever....

Has anyone ever had a rash like this before? Could it be from sweating???

I don't know. Are you keeping it clean and dry? My nurse recommended that I blow dry my incision on the cool setting. Have you called your doctor?

I have not called my dr yet ~ I just discovered the rash about an hour ago. I was putting guaze on it to keep it dry, but did not replace it after I got my staples out on Thursday. My hubby thinks it is a heat rash ~ from sweating when my fever broke earlier today. I have steri-strips on now and blowdrying it sounds like a good idea!

My doctor didn't recommend putting anything on my incision, just wash it with soapy water and rinse. Be sure to use the cool setting if you blowdry it!

I had a bikini cut TAH. What did you have?

I had the same thing. I think he probably told me about the guaze because I have skin that hangs down over my incision.

My hubby really thinks it's a heat rash. I took a shower and made sure I dried it really well. I think I will let it "air out" closer to bed time and see what happens.

It probably is. I had the sweating problem, too, kind of under a little ledge or something. Good luck!

Have you ever had an allergic reaction to adhesives or tape? Just a thought.

Hope it gets better,

I was wondering the same thing... is it possible you could be sensitive to the adhesive on the steri-strips? It happens occasionally.

Hmmmm....I didn't think about that. He did spray some stuff on that area before he took out the staples / put on the steri-strips. I could be having a reaction to that stuff....

I think I am going to break down and call his answering service today...

Hi Adoptameezer

I would suggest that you call the doctor on this one. I had what I thought was a reaction to steristrips just as you described. It looked like a heat rash. It then turned into bigger bubbles. At day 12 my incision broke open with an abscess. My symptoms were part of a big infection brewing. Since you say you have a fever and you're only nine days post op, it's proper protocol to call your doctor anyway. I would like for it to be nothing more than heat rash and an upper respiratory infection for you, but the only way to know that for sure is to be safe and give them a call. After major surgery you shouldn't wait and see when it comes to fever.

Please keep us informed of how you're doing.
