Have you tried putting the pillows under your knees to relieve the pressure on your lower back. I also found the more I could walk, the better my back felt. Hope your are doing better when you read this. Take Care.

I have never heard that gas-x causes constipation. All I can say is I have been taking it generously and it helps. I am also taking colace 3x daily. I have not had a bm yet. I guess I'll take the wait and see approach as to whether our not I'm constipated. If so milk of magnesia works great for that.
Hope you feel better soon!

Hi DG,
Since the LAVH/BSO was my second laparoscopic surgery in 5 months I learned a trick from the nurse regarding how to help the gas reabsorb - keep warm/hot fluids flowing!!! - tea, hot chocolate, even hot water with lemon. It really does help if you stay with it. I hate the feeling of a little creature inside, knocking on my ribcage, making it painful to take deep breaths
Also,, moving around as much as you can tolerate. That facilitates the gas to move through the system, too.
It will get better!!! Best to you, Robbi

Hi Ladies!
I'm finally back - my LAVH was the 14th and I was home Friday. I felt so good that I totally wore myself out Fri and Sat and was in bed all day yesterday. I can't believe how terrified I was before surgery and I've been doing so much since I got home my husband has threatened to tie me to the bed (hmm... shouldn't he have threatened that BEFORE surgery? )
I stopped taking the Norco because I was feeling no pain and was doing way too much. Haven't had much good sleep, and if I don't lose at least 5 pounds from not eating the last few days I'm gonna be mad.
I got photos of my procedure. The dermoid was a lttle larger than my uterus and was totally inside my right ovary. All I have left is my left.
2 painful BMs since Tuesday - Doctor prescribed a stool softener, but it doesnt' seem to be working. I think the pain meds were cancelling it out.
Glad to know you're all doing well and are over the worst! I haven't been online much since I got home - I think I'm talked out from not having a minute alone!
Thanks you everyone for getting me through the terror that is Pre-Op. I don't know what I would have done without this site.
DH just left for work and my sister will be here soon - I'm going back to bed and see if I can sleep for a couple of hours.....

I love GasX.. and I take Flax Seed as a natural laxative. It took 5 days, but things are at least moving now. Remember to drink a ton of water - the pain pills do make you constipated.
As for demoral shots - I assume they gave them in your hip yes? I have never been black and blue from those. I get them when I have kidney stones. Demoral works pretty quickly - I didn't feel like the morphine did a whole lot of good myself.
How long before I get some energy back? I think I am doing pretty good But I seem totally ragged by the end of the day and I am not doing anything all day but taking a shower. Maybe in bed too much?? lol

Hysterectomy dates Feb 12-Feb 19,2007
Hi All,
I had my TAH on the 13th and came home on Friday. I am doing very well I think, all things considered! It was pretty tough on Tues. and Wed. but each day gets a little better. My first biggest challenge was getting out of bed the first time on Wed. I passed out the first three times, but was successful the fourth time! I had motivation, the catheter was out and I had to go to the bathroom. My second biggest challenge was getting up the 18 or so steps that lead to my house. With my husband in front and my father in law behind me, I slowly powered through it. Did I mention the angels lifting from above me:-) I was soooooo glad to get home.
I hope everyone else is doing well, and taking care of themselves. I've prayed for all of us every day!!

If the Milk of Magnesia doesn't work, a suppository most likely will. Once you get passed the thought of having to use one! But I used one after both of my surgeries and they worked within an hour and worked without cramping. Pluse it helps with the first BM because less bearing down is required with a suppository. Good luck. I will definately keep using the gas-x . Take Care.

It's been 6 days post op for me and I haven't gotten my energy back yet. The most I do in a day is shower, play on my laptop, read, watch tv, and today I actually paid some bills!! Never thought I would be glad to do that task - haha.

on the road to reccvery
Surgery was Thurs Feb15th. Remember getting epideral about 1:30 and waking up to go to my room about 5:00.
Everything went well, fibroid was about the size of a bowling ball. The cervex was left as well as 1 ovary. Doc said the other ovary was pretty beat up and had a lot of vericous veins so he removed it, but the other one was good and heathly and showed no problems. Staye dan extra day in hospital because potassium was real low. Go tomorrow(Tuesday) to have staples removed. Ended up with a vertical cut. Its seems like its about an inch or so above belly button anthen goes down to hair line. But now the fun part of getting strength back.
