Vagifem absorbed systemically?

I've been using Estrogel and have had NO bloating or swelling in my fingers whatsoever, even at 2 pumps a day. I have had some vaginal dryness so last night I used a Vagifem for the first time in a long time. I only used 1 pump of Estrogel. My fingers are puffed out like sausages this morning! I thought Vagifem was not absorbed systemically? I think it is.

Vagifem absorbed systemically?

Hi Carol,
I had the same thing happen with Vagifem. I used it right before a car trip and by the time we reached our destination my ankles were so swollen and it took several days for them to go down. I had also read the same thing that it isn't systemic. My doctor explained that I have atrophy and since the tissue is thin the hormone was absorbed into the blood. I have tried the Vagifem over and over with the same results.

I've never had any systemic effects from Vagifem, but of course we're all different and what's true for me isn't necessarily true for others.

You mentioned you used only one pump of EstroGel instead of two. Could it be that is the cause of the swelling? When you change two things at the same time it's tricky to figure out which is the problem.

You could try using your usual two pumps along with the Vagifem sometime to see if there's a difference if you want to test out that theory. Why not run it by your doctor?

I always swell with more estrogen, not less. Thanks for your replies.

(((Carol))) are you using any progesterone these days? I get swelling when I have too little estrogen; I also get it when I have too much estrogen without progesterone. It's a delicate balancing act!

I really really doubt that the Vagifem is somehow increasing your systemic levels more than an additional pump of EstroGel would. I don't believe there is enough estrogen in one Vagifem to do that, even if 100% of it went into your bloodstream.

Vagifem absorbed systemically?

My gynocologist said with severve atrophy Vagifem can get into the system. When I had the ankle swelling that was the only estrogen I was using.
