surgery next friday

So, I have surgery on August 13Th, and I my getting nervous.
I was looking at the Dr. papers and they said that they are going to do a total hysterectomy and when we talked we were going to do a partial. What is the difference?

Between my family and work, I do not know if I am going to be able to just take care of myself. My plan is to worry about me and let my husband worry about the kids. Work is going to worry about it self.

Re: surgery next friday

A total hysterectomy is removal of the uterus and cervix. A partial usually leaves the cervix. I think that maybe you should call your dr and ask for clarification since you expected a partial. I'd want to know for sure

Re: surgery next friday

Hi Redgogo,

I didn't know what kind of hysterectomy I was going to have either. The only thing that I knew was that it was going to be through an abdominal incision.

In my case though, my endometriosis was so severe that the doctor at first wanted to try to take out the cervix with everything else, but when she got in there she discovered that removing it could cause a possible puncture to my bowels. So I had a subtotal instead....she took out the ovaries and uterus, but left the cervix in. Do you have endometriosis? Maybe this is why your doctor doesn't know for sure what kind of surgery you'll need.

Try not to worry about the surgery too much. I remember when I was waiting for mine, I kept worrying about what could go wrong.......but to tell you the truth, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I feel soooo much better now that I no longer have to deal with all of that excruciating endo pain and that crazy Aunt Flo. Another perk is that I seem to have more energy than I've had in years. Take good care of yourself. Remember to pamper the princess!
