Re: #1 thing to take to hospital

I had my surgery 4 days ago and for different reasons, I didn't have my bag with me (dh was ready to come visit, our youngest started throwing up! for one.) They put a belly binder on me at the hospital (in recovery?) and I asked for lip balm because my lips were so dry! After that, I was good to go (since they do food there too ). I just used the socks they gave me at pre op, stayed in my gown until the next day when my dh brought my bag and watched TV when I wasn't sleeping or eating. HTH!

Oh, at home, I am sitting in a recliner with at TV tray next to it for my stuff. I need my meds beside me in bed too, so I've found a small bag with handles is good for collecting all that little stuff (meds bottles, lip balm, eye mask, ear plugs, stuff for my stuffy nose) and carrying it back and forth in one shot.

After that, I would say, yep, lip balm, loose fitting pjs and a jacket (I live in maine), and slippers because my feet were too swollen for actual shoes, and a pillow for the ride home to put on my stomach. I left the pillow, along with a blanket in the car so they were there when I needed them. I brought a book, but honestly never even thought about touching it.

Best of luck to all my sisters

Yeah, I missed my dh so much. He got sick two nights before my surgery, and had to stay home caring for our boys who were also sick (3 yo threw up as he was getting ready to come see me )

It's been so good being home with him again. That first night we just relished touching one another and being together again. Bliss.

They asked if I wanted to take a shower the next day, but since I didn't have my bag yet, I said I'd do it at home. You can always ask too (if you'll be able to).

Re: #1 thing to take to hospital

I highly recommend your own body wash, shampoo and hairbrush/hair ties if you take nothing else. They had me up and showering early the next morning and the aromatherapy was heavenly. Besides that I really only used lip stuff, my pillow, my Kindle and a little basket to hold my glasses, phone and lip stuff.
