Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 06-Jul 12,2020

If your hysterectomy was between Jul 06-Jul 12,2020 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your hysterectomy recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads now begin in our special forum for all Hysterectomy Recovery Reports and will remain there for you to always find your discussion.
  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!
  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 06-Jul 12,2020

Welcome to The Other Side, Princesses !

This is your Recovery Thread, where you’ll be able to share your progress and laugh and cry together as you support one another along the way. I'll be walking alongside you in your recovery journey, sharing my own experiences and pointing you to resources we have here.

Healing is your #1 priority. This was major surgery and healing takes place inside as well as outside. You’re still your doctor’s patient until you’re released, and even then, healing will continue.

Get plenty of rest
Drink plenty of water
Take your meds as directed
Walk as you are able (for now, from your cozy recovery spot to the bathroom or kitchen)

There will be things you cannot and must not do at first , you may experience gas, bowel issues, aches and pains, and your emotions might swing at the drop of a hankie.

And when you’re confused , it’s okay to ask questions, and we welcome you to discuss whatever is on your mind. You are not alone!

For now, rest – and rest well!

Honestly, I am doing much better that I expected. Some discomfort of course but so far manageable pain. They keep discussing this wave of gas that will be expelled from my tummy but so far that’s been minimal too. This morning I had my first lengthy stroll through the hospital halls. So far so good. Next, a bit of breakfast. If all goes well, my hope is to go home today.

LSEnd! I'm glad you've already posted here in your Recovery Thread!

I'm a wimp for pain, and I was fearing how badly the surgery might hurt. When I woke up in the recovery area (briefly) I remember thinking, "Yeah, I can tell I had surgery, but this is bearable" ... and went right back to sleep!

I stayed on the stronger meds for about a week. An attempt to get off of them early failed when I started walking like Quasimoto!

That was my worry too, how badly it would hurt. So far, if I can stay in front of the pain, I can do this too. I think the next few days will be hard but glad I am on the other side now. No results as to cancer for another 1-1.5 weeks so the waiting is the other hard part. Could be all done or could need treatment. Then on to another tumor in another location. Baby steps.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 06-Jul 12,2020

My surgery was on Monday and like LSEnd I am so far doing better than I expected. It was outpatient so I was able to come home that night--a little delayed because my bladder had trouble "waking up" after the anesthesia (and 16 hours of no fluids!). I experience some pain in the process of sitting/lying down and getting up again, but otherwise it's not too noticeable. I never got the terrible gas pains that I expected from the laparoscopic procedure so am counting my blessings for that. I do have the swelly belly but it's hard to tell much of a difference between that and the big belly full of fibroids that I had before. They said my uterus was six times the size of a "normal" uterus and covered in fibroids both inside and out--the doctor lost count. I am so glad to have them gone! The pain so far has been nothing compared to the debilitating menstrual cramps I've had for the last 20 years, so I'll take it.

Best wishes to everyone else going under the knife this week!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 06-Jul 12,2020

My surgery was yesterday and slept most of the day. Felt a little nauseous but put that down to pain relief. This morning I went for a little walk around the ward with my physio and now sat up in a chair waiting for lunch. So far so good - sleeping lots, drinking lots of water and delighted to be rid of the 1/2kg fibroid and realise I’ll have such better quality of life post recovery.

Abh387 and EastFi! I'm glad y'all have joined in on your Recovery Thread!

I'm also a Former Fibroid Femme Fatale . Bunch of 'Broid Bros were having a house party in there: they got evicted and the frat house razed. I call my ex-uterus Ol' Lumpy, and I really don't miss it.

Recovery, even having retained my cervix, took longer than I anticipated. I'd attended a hysterectomy prep class beforehand and knew of restrictions, but I still thought by two weeks I'd be able to return to my part time desk job, walk a decent amount, etc. Not the case. The thing is I had a textbook surgery and recovery with no setbacks. That's why I hang out here, to help women understand this surgery and offer encouragement during those times when it seems like it's taking forever.

We've got a lot of resources here at HysterSisters, and we encourage you browse through our various Articles libraries. Throughout your healing I'll be posting links to meet you where you are. Some to get you started:A caution about Dr. Google: he's not a doctor, he just plays one on the internet. Try to stick with us, or known medical sites if you wish to get more technical. Beware of blogs - there are many with agendas based upon false or inaccurate info.

Rest... and rest well!

So far recovery is great. Turns out I had appendicitis as well.

Surgeon said my uterus looked beaten up and looked very painful. I'll get to see pictures later!
