Question about Doctor Postponing Surgery

I'm scheduled for my TAH (keeping my ovaries) on April 12th at noon. Ironically this was the same date and time my middle child (daughter) was born 25 years ago! I find myselft starting to worry about the "what if's" and was wondering if anyone's doctor had to postpone their surgery because one of their other patient's was ready to deliver or there was an emergency their doctor needed to attend to? If so, when did they have their surgery? Is this something I should ask my doctor at my pre-op appointment next Tuesday? Also, is it unusual to have my pre-op appt. 3 weeks in advance? I go to the hospital for their pre-op on April 10th in the morning. Thank you so much for anyone that can answer my questions and help put my mind at ease! I'm 48 years old and have never had surgery before.

Question about Doctor Postponing Surgery

I haven't had a doc postpone for any of my surgeries thankfully. Have been pushed back on the schedule because someone else's surgery took a little longer. I would go ahead and ask your doc what his/her plan of action is if something comes up....like will it just be delayed until later that day or will someone else step in to keep things on schedule? Just trying to throw some ideas your way.
I don't think it's unusual to have your pre-op with your doc so early. Try to compile a list of your questions....a copy for you and the doc with space for him/her to write answers. Mine was way early and he told me if I had anymore questions to call the office or drop a list by and he would call me with the answers.
There is a list of pre-op questions on this site that is a good starting point and you can add your own to.
As far as not having surgery before....let your doc know this. He/she will be able to help put your mind at ease in explaing the procedure and how things will go the day of surgery. The staff at the hospital can also give you something the day of to help ease your nerves. It's great stuff!
Last of all, since I'm being so long-winded, (probably pain meds don't help!) is that you've come to the right place for advice and support. Everyone here is so nice and understanding.
Welcome!

Question about Doctor Postponing Surgery

My pre-op appointment was a full month before my surgery, and it really didn't amount to much. I interviewed with both doctors, had some blood drawn, and that was really about it.

Although of course anything is possible, I haven't seen any recent instances where surgery was postponed due to an emergency coming up with another patient. You might get pushed back on the day's schedule, however. (With my last surgery, I reported at 7 a.m. but I didn't get into surgery until 3:00 p.m. because of some emergencies.)

One of my favorite places here at Hyster Sisters is the Tell Your Hyst-Story Forum . In this forum you'll find over 1,300 surgery stories. I became positively addicted to this part of the site, and I could not get enough of reading the experiences of actual women who had the very same surgery I was about to have. No, not all of the stories are happy -- but they are real. There was something very comforting in being able to read all of those experiences! I hope you'll check it out.

I hope this info helps.
