Swelly Belly

Hi...my LAVH is scheduled for February 12 and I was wondering... since my procedure is Laparscopic will I still have a swelly belly? I wasn't sure if swelly belly is due to the abdominal incision or the hysterectomy in general.

I am new and all the information has been so helpful!

Thanks!

Swelly Belly

Hi and welcome. My hyster was almost a year ago, and I still have swelly belly, I am thinking that it is probably a less noticable issue when its done per laparoscopy.. Great question, hope you get answers from the ladies on board that had theirs that way!! Linda

Swelly Belly

I had an LAVH/BSO on 11/1/06 and I did not have any swelly belly at all. Went in with a flat tummy and came out with a flat tummy. I asked my dr about this at my pre-op because I was concerned about this after reading the boards here and not wanting to walk around for a year with swelly belly and she assured me that I would not have it - I don't know if she know of some secret in doing the LAVH/BSO so her patients don't get it or what -but I am grateful.

Swelly Belly

Someone please enlighten me on this "swelly belly" issue. My date is the 10th. I have never had much of a belly at all, even after my c-section. I have enough concerns about the surgery as it is. Is this swelly belly a big deal? Please tell me it's something temporary. I don't want my appearance to be a problem after all I've been through.

Swelly Belly

drsrnsalter, I don't know and I can't figure it out. When I started reading the boards here before my hyst. the swelly belly thing scared me to death. I asked my gyn/onc about it and she assured me that I was in great shape and did not need to worry about it and as I stated in my last post - no swelly belly at all.
I have read posts from sisters who have had all different types of hysts who have had the swelly belly so it does not discriminate within the types of hyst. Also, the time the swelly belly last also varies. It seams some have it for a few weeks and then some sisters are still writing that they still have it a year after surgery. No one has said for sure what causes it - the surgery for the hyst or the hyst itself. I still don't know how my dr. knew I would not have it. I did have a LAVH/BSO. My surgery lasted approx 2 1/2 hours and in addition to my reproductive organs being removed I had an additional tumor removed from in between my bladder and uterus. I also had a hematoma shortly after surgery which caused some swelling but that was taken care of with a pressure bandage and an abdominal binder. Thats all the info I know. Hope someone else who has experience swelly belly comes along and can help you more. Lynn
