I'm a very good worrier

My husband tells me that I'm a very good worrier. One of my first worries was that the insurance would deny my surgery because they had in the past. I got the news today that the insurance company approved the surgery. But I also found out that I have to go in to the hospital for pre-op testing instead of just the pre-op phone interview - because I have high blood pressure and diet controlled diabetest. I should be happy that they are being so careful but now I'm worried that something will happen and they'll cancel the surgery. I tend towards white coat high blood pressure - will they cancel the surgery for high blood pressure?

The pre-op appointment is March 1st - one week before my surgery date. It's going to be a long wait...

Re: I'm a very good worrier

Talk to your doctor before your pre-op and make sure you are current with your regular physical and up to date on your meds. You should be fine. I also have high bp and mine spiked the week before surgery, even though I was excited and looking forward to it. It was high the day of surgery as well, but I'm sure that is common and the anesthesiologist/medical team has ways of dealing with it.

Re: I'm a very good worrier

I had a pre-op work done as well - I think it is pretty much SOP. They did blood work, EKG, blood pressure, and other tests. I have normal blood sugar, blood pressure, and am 46. Don't worry about it. They need to have a good understanding of your health before they do major surgery on you.
