I'm having a myomectomy (abdominal) and am about to start my period (day before surgery or DAY OF) Is this okay? Does anyone know? I am waiting to hear from my doctor, but I will be so upset if I have to wait another week! Let me know if anyone has thoughts just to put my mind at ease THANKS!

Hi myogrl!

I'm scheduled for a myomectomy (vaginal) soon, and am also about to start my period. So, I sure hear ya! I asked my doc about this awhile back and I think she told me she could still do it. Anyway, otherwise, I would think that when you were scheduled they'd have asked when your cycle begins. Anyway, I've been bleeding more days than not, so I would think they'd have to develop a technique that would work in this situation.

Have you heard back from your doc yet? What did you hear?
When is your procedure scheduled for (if I may ask)? Mine's August 10th.

Take care!
Try not to worry too much.

I bled through two myomectomies and a hysterectomy! I think they do something during the procedure that gets rid of the excessive blood and you have a pad on after for any discharge.

Hi, Kythe-
I'm so sorry I'm getting back to you so late! I haven't been on the website...but I noticed you had your surgery August 10 and I hope it went very well and you are feeling good! My surgery was on July 27 and it was hugely successful. I am so happy I had it done. I'm very glad I opted for the abdominal myo as I want to have children. The crazy part was...the stuff I was nervous about (anesthesia, actual surgery, etc.) was the easiest part! I only had two bad days...one was the day before surgery (the bowel cleansing was rough...word to the wise: don't drink the entire thing if you are small and don't eat too much.....enough said) and the day right after surgery. HOwever, after that it was pretty smooth sailing. Recovery has been the toughest part, and it hasn't been awful. Just a lot of sleeping and walking slow...but now I am three weeks post and feeling great. My fibroid was the size of a cantelope (aack!) and I feel great knowing that a tumor is no longer in my body. Please let me know if you ever want to talk (or anyone considering myomectomy). I Found it difficult to find a lot of info online (this website is great though) and would be happy to talk. Best of luck to you!

Sooo glad to hear your surgery turned out beautifully and you are feeling well again!
Mine went great a week ago, too, and I feel amazing!
