weight gain after hysterectomy
no and yes.
I am only 9 1/2 weeks post hysterectomy, so I don't know if this qualifies as scientific yet. Maybe someone who's been done for awhile will stop by with their story. Mine is that weight losing weight isn't harder than before. I have just resumed my 'normal' lower calorie eating and have also returned to the gym (I tried not to cut my calories down too low post op - I just tried to maintain my weight). My weight has stayed even since surgery, it is now coming off at the very same pace as before surgery. I have been logging my calories and exercising faithfully since last January..and I have just picked up right where I left off in the past couple of weeks. My pace at the gym is a quite a bit slower than before. Now THAT will take a while to get back to normal.
As for the swelly belly *sigh* for most of us it will be here for a while.

weight gain after hysterectomy
I think that it can go either way, depending on each individual. My sister gained weight and hasn't gotten rid of it yet. I lost a few pounds right at first and now, 4 years post op am about the same as before my tah/bso. I'm smack in the middle of my "ideal" weight range.
Best wishes.

weight gain after hysterectomy
I never gained any weight, but lost maybe 10lbs. Am thin to begin with so didn't really need to lose the weight. Don't seem to be putting the weight back on, at least not yet. My appetite is totally different since surgery. I really don't have an appetite anymore. As far as the swelly belly, that hasn't been a big issue either. It comes occasionally at the end of a long day. The swelling is coming from the healing. It does get better as you mend.

weight gain after hysterectomy
When I took lupron injections I ended up loosing a total of 28lbs in four months. I felt good back then!
My Doctor says that some women benefit from loosing some estrogen and it actually causes them to loose some weight.
It was short lived though because I gained all of it back a year after going off those shots. Mainly because my endo makes me feel so lazy anymore.
Maybe we can start a weigh in thing to see how us who have the surgery are doing weight wise?

weight gain after hysterectomy
On Sept 5th, 2006 I went for an overdue (3yrs since the last one) yearly papsmear. I voiced a concern to my Doc that I thought I was having signs of early menopause (I'm 38). After a quick mamo, sono, and blood test that next Friday, I am scheduled for a (don't know the abbreviation) Partial Vag Hysterectomy (He's taking the cervix and uterus, but leaving the ovaries.) this Monday, Sept 18th!
I am sooo glad I found this website. I went for my pre-op appt yesterday, and knew enough from all the articles and advise from here, that I felt more like I knew what the doc and all the nurses were talking about. Anyway, back on the weight topic, I had just started my diet 2 weeks prior to my Sept 5th Doc Appt. Since Aug 21st, I have lost around 11-12 lbs. with Weight Watchers Point System. I am eating healthier and feeling better already. I surely don't want to go backwards. I understand that I will have to put the diet aside and eat what I need to better heal, but I really hope that there is not some sort of natural weight gain that comes with the surgery.
Another question, do you get Swelly Belly with a vag hysterectomy as or is that just an abdominal incision thing??

weight gain after hysterectomy
I am 3 weeks post op and have gained 8 lbs. since pre surg. I think part of it is the lack of moving around. I also just 3 days ago sprained my ankle go out for my first big adventure. I still went, but man does that stink. Good luck to everyone.

I am 13 weeks post op. I lost 18 pounds and have not gained it back. I never had the swelly bellly. I am dealing with the hot flashes now. They didn't start until around 8 weeks post op. I'm going to try those vitamens from HSN. Everyone has good things to say about using them.
