Re: Will I need a shower chair...
I didn't have to have one. I use one normally because of a chronic illness that makes me very tired all the time; standing and showering can be exhausting for me at times. The first few days after surgery, I was even more tired, so it was nice to have.
I agree it's probably not worth buying one just for this surgery. However, if you've been looking for one anyway, Walgreens offers several that may fit your needs on their website. I think all of them have to be ordered and shipped to you; I don't think any of the ones that might suit you are available in their stores. Just go to walgreens.com and search for "bariatric shower chair".

Re: Will I need a shower chair...
If your shower is tiny it might get in your way. Do you have grab bars inside or outside shower. I did shower 2 mornings in hospital but they had all kinds of bars to hold on to. No chair or bench. Once home for first three days I did full sink baths and washed my hair with spray handle leaning into tub. Once I felt better, stepping over tub side to get into tub shower was okay. The big thing is..no hot showers, and not long ones, you don’t realize how much that can effect you, if weak or dehydrated.......baby steps....

Upcoming hysterectomy 2/28: Will I need a shower chair...
I had no need for a shower chair. For reference - I had an abdominal with a nine inch incision. My surgery was on Monday, went home on Wednesday, took a shower on Thursday. All I did was wash my hair, I figured the shampoo running down by body would do a fine job of cleaning the rest of me for that first shower (and for the next couple of weeks as well. Wasn’t like I was out running marathons) My mom stayed with me the first night and I showered before she left just I case I happened to fall, I wouldn’t be alone. But I had no issues showering - I don’t think you will need a chair.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 2/28: Will I need a shower chair...
I thought I would need a shower chair but decided not to buy one before surgery & see if I could make do with something else around the house. The milk crate with towel is a great idea! I had an afternoon surgery and was home the next day. I showered the day after that. As it turned out, I felt very steady on my feet and was able to shower in my tub/shower combo without a problem. Stepping in and out of the tub gave me the most pause, but I had a step stool handy to grab onto (and person on call) but ended up not needing it.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 2/28: Will I need a shower chair...
I did not use a shower chair. I just had my husband standing outside of shower to help me in and out. I think that a chair sounds more strenuous. Remember to bend with your knees don't bend over.
My shower felt great. By the way, I'm on day three after surgery and I'm still wearing mesh panties. I ordered some. They are wonderful because they are so stretchy.
Hope this helps.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 2/28: Will I need a shower chair...
I had my first shower on post op day 7 ...yesterday... and had my husband help me in & out. I stood on my own and after I felt like I ran a marathon and took a glorious nap that lasted hours. Felt great! No chair needed. I was jealous at how many people in my group of gals took showers on day 2 or 3 but I just didn’t have the chance until day 8 because I was being cared for by my dad for a few days and didn’t want his help getting in the shower lol awwwkwwaardd.

Upcoming hysterectomy 2/28: Will I need a shower chair...
That definitely makes sense LOL I think that taking a shower is definitely something that can be delayed if necessary. I took a shower on day three - but then I think it was another three or four days before I took another. Hygiene took a bit of a backseat for the first couple of weeks ha

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 2/28: Will I need a shower chair...
I bought a chair just in case and never used it in the shower. It has come in handy to sit on while I dry my hair though. Standing for very long those first weeks of recovery isn't very comfortable.

I had one and was really glad I did, but it isn't something that you must have. It does help with the exhaustion.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 2/28: Will I need a shower chair...
Hi, I had a chair just outside the shower to sit on as I dried off. I didn’t need a chair in the shower. I have a lengthy abdominal incision and the nurses told me to stand facing away from the water. That might vary with the type of surgery.
