I am scheduled for TVH on 6/27. I am already perimenopausal, but will keep the ovaries if they are healthy. Is this wise, or should I go ahead and have them removed since they are on the downhill slide? My dr. said it's up to me and I've gotten conflicting opinions from others, but none were peri at the time of the hyster.

I also had a TVH and kept my ovaries. I'm glad I did, my sex drive is the same, nothing changed. I think I owe it all to my ovaries. If you don't have any problems with them, why take them out.

Hi, I was already menopausal at the time of my hyst. I didn't have a choice about keeping my ovaries as I had precancer. I would have chosen to keep them if I had been able. Even though I had been menopausal for 3 years - I still had a pretty unpleasant "surgical" menopause. I got it all evened out with some tweaking of my hrt ( I'm still taking it at almost 3 years post op ). My dr explained that our ovaries keep on working even after menopause - but at a reduced rate. Take them out and you don't have that at all.

I agree with the saying "if it isn't broken - why fix it?". I do understand that it's a personal choice but please consider all the pros and cons and then make the choice that is best for YOU!.

Best wiashes.

I am perimenopausal too. With my situation I didn't have a choice. The doctor couldn't even see my ovaries on the ultrasound they were so messed up, but I agree that it is a very personal choice and weighing the pros and cons in your particular case is a good idea.
I wish you well in whatever you decide though

Hi

I was perimenopausal at the time of my TVH and I decided to keep my ovaries if they were healthy. I was lucky that they were indeed healthy and I'm glad that I was able to keep them. They are still working fine and I'm doing well. They probably aren't working as well as they did when I was younger, but I feel that every little bit helps.

It is a very personal choice and one that only you can make with the guidance of your doctor. I agree with Jean, weigh all the pros and cons to help with your decision.

I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery and pray that you are led to the right decision for you.
