Hi all,

I am 10 days post op and I’ve been experiencing lip tingling, dizziness/wooziness. Has anyone else felt this or know what it is?

10 days post hysterectomy: Lip tingling/ dizzy-wooziness?

Tingling lips accompanied by dizziness is most likely a sign of low blood sugar. The healing process uses up a lot of energy, and if you're not taking steps to stabilize your blood sugar levels, this can be the result. For immediate relief, I recommend a source of fast sugar, like a juice box or a few pieces of candy, accompanied by a small snack that combines protein and healthy fat, like a boiled egg, a cheese string, a small tub of Greek yogurt, or a handful of nuts. For long-term management, I recommend switching to 5-6 small meals per day, focusing on low-glycemic carbs from most fruits and vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, accompanied by regular moderate servings of protein and healthy fats. Best wishes for resolving this soon, and for continued health and healing!

Re: 10 days post hysterectomy: Lip tingling/ dizzy-wooziness?

and

My light-headedness was caused by low blood pressure. A nurse advised to bump up my sodium intake. Another cause of light-headedness is anemia, more likely if you had it before surgery. Your hemoglobin and blood pressure can be checked at your doctor's office. If you need iron, seek a doctor's guidance - since we no longer menstruate, we don't need the same levels menstruating women do.

The tingling lips could be a vitamin or mineral deficiency, and if your appetite is off, that's possible. For that, Tiger_Eye's tips on balanced eating hold true here, too.

Since you've just joined us, you might find these resources helpful in knowing what to expect during these first weeks:I'd also like to invite you to connect with your Recovery Thread for women who had surgery the same week as you at Recovery Progress Reports for Apr 19-25. Recovery Threads are wonderful for getting support, comparing notes, encouraging others, and keeping one another company.

Do you have other symptoms as well? What is your heart rate like?

For me, wooziness was low blood pressure... and I had a fast heart rate - which combined raised concern for my surgeon and I was sent to the ER where I was diagnosed with sepsis. The fever didn't come until later to signify an infection, but my body was already having to work much harder.

Typically, according to my surgeon, wooziness can be completely "normal" due to the trauma that your body has been through and can be low blood sugar or low blood pressure as your body adjusts.

Not posting this to alarm you at all, just to mention that if you have other symptoms, pay attention to the combination and ask your dr if you're concerned!

Hoping you are feeling better soon and that you figure out the issue and how best to adapt!
