5 weeks post hysterectomy: Vaginal Pain

Hello. I had my surgery 23 Feb. I am doing ok for the most part. I get a little blood ever so often. There are times when I'm stopped in my tracks by a huge pain in my vagina. It feels like something is pushing to escape. I found a long stitch once but usually there is nothing. Is this normal? What is happening? I am 62 and a huge wus when it comes to pain. :/

5 weeks post hysterectomy: Vaginal Pain

I don't think that you're being a huge wuss. If your surgery was done vaginally, this feeling is a common consequense of localized swelling, similar to what happens when you sprain your ankle and the traumatized tissues become inflamed and swollen; several sisters have described it as feeling like a stuck tampon. For relief, I recommend applying cold, with either a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel, or a maxi pad soaked in water then frozen. Best wishes for moving past this stage soon, and for continued health and healing!

Re: Pain

since youre about 10 weeks post op, you might want to run the bleeding/pain (since you describe it as it stopping you in your tracks). by your doctor. you might have an area on your vaginal cuff that hasn't healed completely.

Re: 5 weeks post hysterectomy: Vaginal Pain

With a surgery date of Feb 23rd, I'm counting that you're 10 weeks post op rather than 5. Could you clarify for us? That's could make a difference in what our suggestions are. (I can change the title for you.)

If you're 10 weeks, I agree with Dressedupinblue... Unless it doesn't go away when it hits, it's not an emergency, but we do suggest that any new or intense pain should be reported to your doctor if you've already been released. That you're having occasional blood at 10 weeks is an indication that your vaginal cuff isn't completely healed, and by this time, it should be addressed. The two could be related.

How have your bowel movements been? Is it possible that you're feeling things moving through your colon and you're feeling the pressure against your vaginal cuff?

Make the call to your doctor's office to report both the sudden pain and occasional bleeding. Update us when you can.
