letting out the secret?

Thanks for all of the different points of view on telling my parents. I just read them all and then called and spoke to my Mom. She thanked me for telling her. I think that she was glad that I let out the secret and also glad that I didn't tell her until after my Dad's surgery.
She took it all very well. Of course I didn't tell her how nervous I am and just emphasized how this is really a routine operation, which of course it is.
I feel a little more relaxed now that this is out of the way. She will pray for me and she will email my dear aunt who is a Catholic nun and will get the nuns to pray for me. That is a lot of prayer!

letting out the secret?

I agree with the others who said to tell your parents. When I had my gall bladder out, I didn't tell my mother until after it was over and she was SOOOOOOO upset with me!!! Now I tell her when I have a hangnail!

letting out the secret?

I haven't said a word yet either and my date is 8/25 if I go through with it. A friend of my partner's came over yesterday to encourage me to tell my mom (an 80 year-old practicing RN!) because it would be much worse if something happened to me, as opposed to her being prepared. I haven't told my 22 y.o. son either who just moved 2000 miles away. I've decided to tell him them both (my sister already knows) because I don't want to burden them with guilt if something does go wrong, or blame my partner for withholding. You know, as if there isn't enough worry to go around, already! Do what feels right for you when everything is still. I wish you the best in making the decision!
