Good news--I got a letter from the insurance company today telling me I was approved for my SAH on Monday (11-22)--YIPPEE!!! Bad news--they only approved my stay for 1 day.

It's important to remember that you won't be kicked out! If there is a medical reason why you can't go home they will keep you. It's a simple enough thing for the DR to call and let them know you have to stay. And up to 23 hours is considered going home the same day, so if your surgery was at noon time and you didn't leave til the next morning it is less than 23 hours.

The insurance companies go by what is the "regular, usual" amount of time in the hospital for various surgical procedures. They are merely guidelines, not hard and fast rules. It has also been shown in studies that most people recover better the sooner they can return to their own familiar surroundings. And a hospital is a great place to pick up an infection from all those sick people.
