wyh the long wait???

why do they ( DR ) make you wait so long befor thye do the surgery??? I have to wait until Aug.30, my pre op is the 25, im getting nervous and I have a long time to wait. im having some pain on my right side again, and I want it to go away. my nerves are getting worse with each passing day I have to wait. I just need to ramble for a few, but if any one has any stress relivers that will last until my surgery I will welcome them with open arms. thanks alot.

Re: wyh the long wait???

The time between scheduling and the actual surgery date depends on a lot of factors. I scheduled my April 28, 2004 surgery on March 11, 2004 and had a few weeks to wait. In my case, it was a matter of operating room availability for my doctor. Some women have to get iron levels up, some women try medication to shrink fibroids, the list really goes on and on. Did you ask your doctor why your date is August 30th or if there was anything available sooner?

While you're waiting on surgery, try to do things to keep your mind off of it. Reading, taking walks, doing nice things for yourself. Go out to lunch with your girlfriends or a fun night out.

Hang in there! We'll keep you company and help you prepare!

Re: wyh the long wait???

We decided to do it on 5/25 and the soonest she could fit me into her schedule was 7/22. I'd have been happy to go the next day.

Re: wyh the long wait???

It does depend on the dr and hospital scheduling. We decided on April 29th and I go in Aug 4th. I can't wait It just keeps getting worse. I have had Aunt flo since May 8th, I am exhausted! Forget about the pain, I am almost used to it by now.

Re: wyh the long wait???

I waited about 12 weeks. The doctor and hospital both have to be available, there are insurance considerations (pre-authorizations), tests to be run and sometimes I think (and this is just a guess from me), they want to give you some time in case you change your mind for some reason. Some women do decide to wait or try something else. Technically though, I waited four years because that's when I first asked the doctor to do this surgery. She kept "watching and waiting" (mainly for menopause to kick in) and then gave up when the uterus got to an 18 week size with a giant fibroid pressing on my spine. I wasn't going to change my mind at all and I'm soooo glad I had this surgery. Freedom!

Re: wyh the long wait???

In my case, my doctor only gets to use the robot on Monday afternoons. When I saw her, she was already booked through the end of September. I had a rough period at the end of June and called the office to see if there was something they could do for me. As it happened, her July 12 patient called in the same time to cancel. I was offered the slot with a little more than a week to go.

Can you see about getting on a cancellation list with your doctor?
