Incontinence? Incontinence?

Hi everyone. Day two here with the "sisters" and I'm loving it. I have a question about slight incontinence....not really "stress" kind when coughing or sneezing, but more of a "whoops, where did that little spritz come from?"

I'd actually thought it was blood until I got onto hormones to help me reach my surgery date and found out that it wasn't ALL blood after all.

My doctor asked about it at yesterday's pre-op appt., but didn't say if he'd do anything about it. He did mention a little vaginal "tightening" while he was in there. Have any of you heard about incontenence help?

Re: Incontinence?

Hi ZinnyLinny. Glad you found this site! It was a sanity saver for me leading up to the big day!

I had the same type of incontinence issue - not necessarily when I sneezed or coughed, it just leaked sometimes. About 4 months before my surgery it was almost a daily occurrence.

My doc thought it was due to my swollen uterus pressing on my bladder. I had a 3 month Lupron shot to shrink it down so that I could have a vaginal hysterectomy. It worked for me. My uterus did shrink and I noticed a big difference in the incontinence issue (better).

I had my LAVH yesterday and the doc says my uterus was still swollen but she was able to get it out. She checked my bladder while she was in there and all was well. It'll be a little while before I can tell whether that completely handled the incontinence but I can already tell the pressure is off, pressure I wasn't really aware of until it was gone.

I don't know if all that helped in any way, but since you asked, I thought I'd share. I wish you well.

Re: Incontinence?

Maxine--thanks! My uterus is also large/swollen, so hopefully that's the problem..the leaking issue has gotten steadily worse, right along with the bleeding I'm hoping the two are related. Imagining a life without wearing a pad is very cool.
