The food "rules" confused me

Am having my surgery tomorrow morning and did the bowel prep today.
I was told I could eat all day but a "light" meal for dinner tonite, then nothing by mouth after midnight.

I ate very little during the day but then tonite...Well......round about 4:30 I did eat a half a skinned chicken breast and an unbuttered teabun. I didn't think to ask at the time what "light" meant and am wondering now if I ate totally the wrong food or what here. LOL Yeesh, feeling sooooo stupid. LOL

What I'm probably doing is stewing about all the little things so I keep my mind off The Big Thing that's happening tomorrow! Ya think?

I was told after my bowel prep, nothing other than clear liquids. They want nothing in the bowel in case they would need to do something to it. I know the solid food will go through the bowel rather than the clear liquids. I'd be calling your dr and finding out. You may need to do another bowel prep. SORRY!!

The food "rules" confused me

When he gave me the bowel prep instructions he explained how he only cared that the lower bowel was emptied .......which is why I was able to eat the rest of the day. Sounded odd to me but he mentioned it several times, that it was ok to eat tonite but that he wanted it to be a light meal.

Do you think about 6 bites of skinless chicken breast and a dry tea bun would be considered "light"?

I didn't have any bowel prep instructions before my TAH. Just told not to eat after midnight. Just make sure to tell them in the morning. Probably too late to tell them tonight. But I'd think you'd be fine.

Thankyou, yes, I'll tell them tomorrow. I don't go in until late morning so maybe that has something to do with the food timing too. LOL

Off to see if I can get some early sleep tonite!

Bye all!

Hi FeelinGoofy,

I was allowed to eat anything I wanted up to midnight before my surgery. If your Dr didn't specify what a light meal is, then you may be ok. It doesn't sound like you ate a lot. Just be sure and let them know.
