Ovaries going...

During my consult with the da Vinci surgeon tomorrow I'm going to tell him I want the ovaries gone too. I have a long history of ovarian cysts and severe PMDD and, because I was adopted I don't know what lurks in my family medical history. I've also been in peri-meno for at least 5 years so I figure it's only a few more years til they stop working anyway.

I had cervical dysplasia due to HPV several years ago so I'm having that taken too.

Will I have any sex-drive at all afterwards? I'm up-in-the-air with regards to HRT, and of course not knowing the family med history also means I don't know about my risk of breast cancer either.

Does losing your ovaries automatically kill your libido?

Re: Ovaries going...

Phenyx,

Loss of libido isn't automatic. No ovaries can cause problems that HRT can help with but keep in mind everyone is different. It's difficult to say how you will react.

My libido and sexual function are much better post op with HRT. The HRT is a big factor for me.

Some women seem to be able to manage without ovaries or HRT but you will need to wait and see. A talk with your doc may help you have an idea of what to expect.

Have you set a date for your hyster?

Re: Ovaries going...

I saw the surgeon today. His people have to get together with my urologists people because I'm having anterior repair done with the hyst. The earliest the urology office could get me in for a cystocopy is Oct 28th. I told the surgeon I want it done before the holidays so we're looking at early November. At this point it's just a matter of juggling calendars.

I do have my pre-op orders already.

Re: Ovaries going...

Good luck with everything. I have not lost a beat with my sex drive and I am not on HRT. I realize everyone is different but in all honesty it feels like nothing has happened what so ever in the sex drive department.
