CA125 test came back at 49

I have surgery this Thursday. The nurse said I was in normal range but what I have read on the medical sites on the internet the range is 0-35. Everything is coming out but I was just wondering what others think of this test and what their results were?

By the way - thank you for this sight.

Me personally, I think that test is garbage. Theoretically, it's a test for ovarian cancer. However, there are so many *other* things that can cause a high score that it's essentially useless as far as I can tell.

Re: CA125 test came back at 49

Hi Kay and welcome to this wonderful community

The first time I had mine tested (April 2014) it was 55 which was slightly high. I had just had an abdominal/pelvic CT scan that revealed swollen fallopian tubes (hydrosalpinx). I had it tested two more times 3 weeks apart and it doubled the second time and my final reading was over 220. Based on my age (54) the complex abdominal masses and a high CA-125 reading a hysterectomy was recommended. Mine was done by a gyn oncologist as they suspected cancer. To make a long story short, everything that they removed was benign and I was told that all of the inflammation and the Stage IV endometriosis that they found could have been causing the rise in my blood level. Try not to worry....... and please keep us posted. Good luck with your surgery.

Re: CA125 test came back at 49

Hi Kay1985

The CA125 test reads proteins that can be thrown off by benign growths. It is not diagnostic at all, and just gives an indicator of these protein levels.

I had a very large complex ovarian cyst and numerous uterine fibroids. My CA125 was normal, and my OVA1 was elevated. I also had a cancer concern, and my surgeon was a gyn onc. I had a TAH BSO, tested in the OR - all was benign.

I know it is hard, but do not focus too much on this test.
