Surgery in the morning

I have to be at the hospital in the morning and I am a nervous wreck. I have never been put under and the only surgery I have had is a c-section. It is so hard not to talk myself out of it even though I know it will be a good thing in the long run. Any last minute advice for me? How do you stay calm and get some sleep the night before? I also decided to have my cervix removed after going back and forth and worry I made the wrong choice. There is just so much anxiety involved in this, especially for someone who already has anxiety issues.

Re: Surgery in the morning

Take deep breaths. Pray. You will be fine. I read a book the night before until I just past out.

This time tomorrow....all over!

Re: Surgery in the morning

I feel the same way! My surgery is Friday and I'm already so anxious! I know I'll be a wreck Thursday night! You could try a benadryl... but it's probably too late now. Best of luck to you today. Take a deep breath and remember all the reasons you scheduled this surgery. You made an informed decision about what was best for you. We all fear the great unknown. Embrace the positive. Release the negative.

Re: Surgery in the morning

I felt the same way and am so glad I had it all taken! I have anxiety issues when it comes to surgery. Just tell the pre-op nurse when you get in there so they can give you Versed or something to help with it. As far as the night before, I read a good book and just tried not to think about it. Good luck!

Thanks ladies. I fell asleep ok but then was up with a sick 2 year old. My bigger anxiety is now leaving him when he's sick.
