No regrets just scared to death

how can i possibly have any regrets?? now having my 2nd period in a month. (gushing, bloating, pain, soaked thru my clothes, cranky, achy) Really?? LACH w. BSO. i want this to be over. have had other surgeries in the past but, its been a long time since and my health has slightly changed. hence, my fear. lets start with my needle phobia (petrified, literally). i take a beta blocker & a baby aspirin for tachycardia. my electrolytes are off so i take Rx magnesium & potassium. i feel terrific & do walk 3 miles every day in addition to working with a trainer who has helped build my strength & stamina. in addition to fearing that my heart will "speed" im scared i will bleed to death and my bp will drop to dangerous levels & the drs wont be able to get everything under control. why do i worry about such things. i cant get these horrible thoughts our of my head. Make it stop!!!

Re: No regrets just scared to death

I am not sure how old you are, but I am 45, and I had the same thoughts. I have no idea why, I am a healthy woman, but those thoughts crept in about a week before my surgery on 12/5 and they wouldn't go away. So if it helps, nothing like that happened to me. I did fine, surgery was fine, everything is gone now. The gas was the worst for me I'd have to say, and I also had my first BM today! :-D What a relief! It will be fine, I think all of us have those fears. Some of us just have them worse than others. Best of luck to you, and you will do great!

Re: No regrets just scared to death

Right there with you Sally. I worry about blood clots, heart failure, arrythmias...ect. I can drive myself nuts. I have anxiety disorder any way. I told my doctor when he started going over the risks, that I knew most of them and to please not talk about them too much or I would dwell on that alone. Those movies called Final Destination, where all these crazy things happen to people....that's how my mind works. It's insane. Hope you feel better and stop worrying. If I knew a way to make it stop, I would certainly share it. this website has helped me bunches.

I had the same surgery November 16th 2011, things will be ok. I had a great sugery and am recovering well. I worried so much before my surgery it was pure hell. It will get better and you will make it through just fine, please believe this the worry is just not worth it.

Hugs to you, be brave

Re: No regrets just scared to death

Sally my surgery was at 9 am Monday morning and I was released to go home on Tuesday around 2pm. The pain shots they gave me knocked me completely out, but only for about an hour, then I would wake up hurting again. I finally asked if they would stop the shots and just give me the pills. For whatever reason, the pills lasted longer for system is weird I guess. All in all, the hospital stay was fine, and I was so glad to get home, because even though my stay was just over a day, it seemed like an eternity! Haha!

So anyway, as I said, I had my first BM today, although small, it did bring some relief. I suppose I am lucky, because I didn't experience the pain others have talked about. I am grateful for that. Been sitting her today thinking I can go again, but so far, that hasn't happened.

Last night was the worst one yet, and I was actually doubting my decision for the first time. I was very sick, very sore, dizzy, headache. But don't let that scare you, because a few hours later, that had all passed, and I am fine again.

I was just like you, and i am not just saying that. I was so terrified that I was making myself sick about it. But I promise you, if all of us on here can make it through this, you can do it too! All of us are way stronger than we give ourselves credit for.

When is your surgery again?

Re: No regrets just scared to death

Surgery is Jan 17. Thanks so much for all the positive feedback. I don't know why I'm thinking this way but my thoughts race constantly. I am suddenly all Uneverything. unmotivated, unenthusiastic, uninterested, unwilling and I can't stop.

Re: No regrets just scared to death

Just hang in there and try to relax. You won't have all the bad things happen that you think. I know it's easier said than done, but try hard to focus on other things. And just think, once you have it done, all your problems will be behind! If you need to talk more in depth, I can be your support pal, just let me know.

Re: No regrets just scared to death

I am 62 and have never had surgery in my life! Let alone a fairly invasive abdominal one, with a slight risk of cancer thrown in.

I had all your fears and more. Didn't really expect to wake up!

But the surgery was just a breeze. Absolutely nothing to fear, in fact (in retrospect!)

Recovery - not fun, but you get through it and with time you get noticeably better.
You will look back like me and have no regrets!

For now, try and keep busy. If you pray or meditate that will help, too!
All the best!

Re: No regrets just scared to death

I know how you feel - the surgery and the what ifs consume my thoughts daily - I have high blood pressure on top of my hyster coming up in 13 days - I am 45 and mother to 3 teenagers and a wonderful husband, but I can't help feeling so scared and sometimes all alone. There are a lot of people who shrug this off and say things like its so common these days, etc.... But unless and until it happens to you, people really don't understand. Thank god I found this support system. I read the threads daily, sometimes more just to make it through a day without being overwhelmed!
