Hi Catwoman,
I am from Nashua, NH. I had a TAH/BSO on July 17th. I am still recovering and its very slow in progress. No depression yet, just night sweats and hot flashes. No mood swings either. But I am only 3 weeks post-op. I had a tough time in surgery and my recovery is not without problems. How are you doing now? I realize that its been a month since you posted this thread. I hope that your feeling better. Hugs from me to you. Susan

Hi Susan, good to hear from you. I am 3 months post-op and taking premarin. I,ve been having severe headaches but it may just been a flu bug which seems to be the third one since my surgery. Maybe it's just a side affect of the surgery.Osteoporosis maybe worsening in my neck. If it dosen't resolve with chiro and home remedy's I may go to see an Orthopedic Dr. since I have a history of neck problems. I know worsening of conditions is a side effect of menopause. I,m glad to hear your doing well. Hang in there and write if you need to talk. Sincerely Catwoman

Hi Catwoman,
Well, its 4:00 in the morning and I am wide awake. I am having a bit of insomnia at night only. I can nap during the day which I try not to do but it sure makes it tough to sleep at night and I take Ambien to sleep. Even that isn't helping. I guess another side effect of surgical menopause. I have been having a period for 2 weeks now. Must be this vaginal cuff they tell me that the stitches start to dissolve. The doctor does not seem too concerned about this. My daughters say "Only you, Mama would still have a period after a complete hysterectomy". I am still quite sore when I do too much and sometimes have to still take a percocet for pain. I have good and bad days. How about you? Do you usually suffer from migraines? I get them every so often and I know I miserable they are. How is the premarin doing for your mood? Do you have trouble sleeping sometimes? Just like to compare notes to see if I am just where I should be in recovery. I don't go back to work until September 17th. I just finished up school for Medical Coding before my surgery. I have to do some internship before I graduate and take a national exam so this is keeping me busy while I study and recover. Hope all is well with you. Would love to chat with you anytime. Take good care Catwoman. Hugs from me to you. Susan

Dear Susan, I also experienced insomnia and slept when I needed to because I don,t believe it's possible to follow a sleep schedule so soon post-op. I'm 44 and thought I could go without the premarin but day 6 after the surgery I felt like my emotions "crashed" and other hystersisters have reported this. After 1 week on premarin I started to feel a little more normal and still take it.Ambien didn't work for me but lorazpam then diazpam helped. When I don't take diazpam, I buy the Equate Allergy@Walmart $4.oo for 100 Tabs Cheapest way to go. One works, 2 can make you jittery. You can buy breakable tablets also and try 12.5 mg vs 25. Diphenhydramine HCL is whats in TYLENOL PM. But I avoid tylenol its bad for your liver. Your going to be extra sensitive emotionally so try to discourage kids, relatives from berating you. It can psyche you down. Hugs, sleep, sleep, (90%) healing occurs during sleep! TRY to move your work return date up farther or 1/2 day, How old are you? sincerely catwoman

Hi Catwoman,
I am 46 years old. I have 2 daughters ages 21 and 18. They both go to college nearby. Today, I slept for 4 hours this afternoon. I just woke up. I think I am catching up on the sleep I am losing. Were you bleeding at 4 weeks post-op? I am still having something like a period. This is crazy. I see the doctor on Aug 23rd. Still, my mood is stable, no mood swings or heavy emotional outbursts. Not yet.... I do have a little cry once in a while. You see, my husband of 25 years left me last Christmas for another woman and sometimes I feel sorry for myself. But I keep busy and he is very good to our girls and me still. I think its the guilt he feels but he isn't a bad man he just wasn't happy with me I guess. I tend to be sick all the time but now that I've had the hyst, I think things are going to be great. We will be new women, Right? I have had the lorazapam before, this is brand name Ativan which is a nice calming medication. I may ask my doctor for some of these to try for sleep purposes. The Benedryl type meds tend to make me very jittery but sometimes I feel really itchy and this helps. I know that the mood swings are tough. I had them alot when my husband and I were together because he couldn't handle me being sick so much and he is an alcoholic and would drink too much and sleep all the time. I used to blame myself for his drinking problem but I realize that this is his problem and not mine. He has found a woman that will drink with him and tolerate the drinking, so he left me. Sorry for rambling. I truly am much happier now but I still love him. He is the love of my life and always will be. I am very devoted and can be such a sap sometimes but thats just me. Thank you for listening catwoman and for your emails. I hope you are doing much better. I am praying for you. Hugs to you from me. Take good care lady..... Susan

Question - anyone in the nashua, nh area Back from the siesta

Dear Susan, I,m sorry to hear about your life situation, but be assurred we all have a story of that nature. Someone said to me "if everyone brought their troubles to the table, they would leave with the ones they brought, or something like that. I had no idea what she mean't so she explained... Everyone would rather have the problems they came with after listening to others. Must be a English saying. anyway. Sleeping will heal you. I've been in pain for 2 days, maybe a pulled ligament or colitis or endo growing back I don't know, but it's disheartening. I feel like the colon is aggravated. I wish I had my own medical testing equiptment. The appointments are available after the thing has resolved itself. Like I want a Barium enema now or something that will see if there is a flaw in the colon wall. I cut out coffee and diet coke 48 hours ago to see if that would change things. Lots of motrin and tylenol help. I wish I knew what this pain is and how to resolve it. How are you doing? Do you have any pain with the bleeding. I left my cervix in so I don't have a cuff. I have to go best wishes, catwoman

Hi Catwoman, I'm sorry your in pain. Do you have an irritable bowel? I have IBS which can be a pain with lots of diarrhea. I know what you mean about a barium enema, geesh... that would be nasty right now after surgery. I've had many of those before. I am still bleeding with this vaginal cuff deal. Its incredible, 4 weeks of bleeding. Its like I still have a period just not as heavy. However, the hot flashes and night sweats are my particular favorite at this time . I still get swelly and sore if I am out and about for too long and I still have not gotten the green light to drive yet. All I do all day is watch movies and I take my walks . I don't go back to work until the 3rd week of September. I want to start a cross-stitch project but I can't concentrate long enough to do it. Crazy huh? My daughters take me out whenever I feel caged in which helps. How are you sleeping ? I am still having trouble with that. Well, since its such a nice day outside, I think I'll take that walk. Chat with you soon Catwoman. Feel better, Let me know how things are going. Hugs from me to you. Susan

Hello ladies... I am in Goffstown, NH and have been post hysterectomy since 1992. (Ton of medical problems which still continue, but also resulted in a hysterectomy at age 22... )

At any rate... what you are going through right now, in a word... well... *****!

BUT... IT DOES GET BETTER! I have been around the HRT and antidepression whirl :run3: (And just this week I need to add thyroid meds to the mix due to an underactive thyroid... new problem!) But... I am NOT experiencing significant symptoms of menopause, insomnia, depression, etc. YOU CAN GET THROUGH THIS!!!
