But, my belly is still really sore and I feel like I'm moving in slow motion No BM yet, but I'm hoping that will come today. I've been trying to really take it easy, but I feel like I've already pulled a muscle or two in my abs. There are one or two spots that are sore when I move but don't have incisions nearby. I think I likely pulled them trying to move in the hospital bed and/or getting into my bed at home because I haven't done any lifting. Really hoping that everything is okay in there. Definitely glad to be on this side of the procedure!

Hopefully your feeling a little better my tummy was sore today from getting up to pee so many times during the night. I am using the binder during the day so that helps a lot. They told me to roll when getting out of bed not that easy to do but I try to be as careful as possible.

Hello ladies! Coleen, 42, here again. Day 5 of recovery. Had a bm yesterday after twice daily colace, lots of fiber and a few cups of apple juice with myralax. I’m feeling pretty well pain wise, keeping up with my Tylenol and ibuprofen. Walking frequently but not pushing it. Still getting chills and some elevated heart rates. My temp has occasionally gone up to 99 but only for short time periods. I imagine the rest of the anesthesia is working it’s way out of me, accompanied with the hard work my body is putting in to heal. I am wishing you all a wonderful, well rested Sunday!

Hi there,
I'm glad the gas is getting better for you, and the swelling is going down. Yes the binder seems to help with pain and support. Thank you for the good wishes, I am feeling much better than before. I was so discouraged about the pain level I was at, and having to go back to the doctor's the next day. But I rested yesterday and the pain and bladder issues continue to improve! Hope everything is going well for you!

Hi Coleen,
Glad to hear about the BM success! Sounds like you are taking all the steps to heal, although sorry about the chills and heart rate. Thanks for the good wishes, and back at you!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 05-Jul 11,2021
Ksjsmk and PNW4life ! I'm glad y'all have found us in your Recovery Thread!
Ksjsmk, 10 foods to Get Your Bowels Moving After Hysterectomy. My go-to solution was Fiber One original cereal, raisin bran, dried prunes (ick), prune juice (icky-ick, requires a chaser of something that tastes better) eaten throughout the day - yes, I've had cereal for lunch before - plus the additional fruits & veggies. Drink enough water-water-water to swamp a canoe, otherwise you're making rocks - and rocks don't flow smoothly. Ask me how I know ! Final tip, use a low footstool about 7-9" to get your knees above your hips. We're actually built to squat, not sit, and propping your feet aligns the body properly for emptying. For the edema, compression stockings, elevate your legs, get up and walk the house, and avoid pre-packaged or highly processed foods as they tend to be higher in sodium. If it gets worse rather than better, let your doctor know.
PNW4life, those sore spots might not be anything you did. You've had 5 sets of ligaments, many blood vessels and connective tissue cut (many of those wounds were cauterized or stitched), and some nerves might've gotten damaged in the process. I had a spot between two of my incisions which was uber-sensitive, would burn when touched and it felt like a deep bruise. I pegged it to nerve damage and it took several months for improvements to come around - longer than healing from the surgery itself.

four days post-op
Hello Sisters,
My DaVinci Assisted Laparoscopic Hysterectomy and Salpingo Oopherectomy (IS THERE AN ACRONYM FOR THIS ONE?) was on July, 7 2021 with no complications. I arrived at the hospital at 6 am, in surgery at 8 am and home by 5 pm. It wasn't a day at the spa, but there were really no unpleasantries except for my anxiety. I am glad that I followed my intuition because the benign mucinous cystadenoma was continuing to grow and it's a relief that it's out. My pain has been manageable and this is the first time I feel comfortable sitting at the computer. Yesterday I had some bad diarrhea but that's not unusual for me and never has been although I am due a follow up for the "stinkin lymphocytic Colitis." And as I was told by some dear person in this group that hospitals prefer you to manage your diabetes, I found this to be 100% true. It was high for a couple of days and better the last two.
Thank you a million times over for this support. Let's keep each other informed. Be Brave and listen to your body!

I've been reading stories about people going shopping, etc. post-op
I've been reading stories about people going shopping, etc. post-op. Wow, I'm four days post-op and this is the first day I feel like sitting upright at a computer, but I'm older? I've worked pretty hard and relish the instructions to take it easy! I don't mean to scare any one, but my sister had a full abdominal hysterectomy in 1983 ( I think that only treatment for severe endometriosis) and tragically, she passed away two weeks from the date of her surgery from a PE. She was 29, very healthy, not overweight in fact quite petite. She had two small children and a husband and my Mother was still alive to help her. I know she was not overly sedentary and I don't know if they had prophylactic drugs. I remember her telling me it was a risk, but she was in the lowest category. I don't like thinking about this and is the most depressing part of my recovery, thinking about what her thoughts were ; loosing her fertility so young. It was an unusually terrible case of endometriosis, or so I've been told; so long ago. I am trying to make a point that no matter how young you are, remember, this is major surgery and I think it is important to follow Dr. orders and be aware of complications especially during the first two weeks. Be Careful dear Sisters.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 05-Jul 11,2021
Hi everyone,
It is day 3 post-op for me. My bladder has calmed down and I am able to pee pretty well. I stopped taking the narcotic pain medicine this morning and so far so good with pain. I am still taking Tylenol and Motrin offsetting.
I was most worried about the first BM. Scared really. I had read a lot on this site about suggestions and foods etc. I am prone to constipation before the surgery, add the trauma and pain medicine, and anxiety on top of it all to me equaled disaster. I am happy to report that the first BM went ok, felt fullness in my vagina, didn't strain that hard, and had some blood appear. It wasn't the amount you're told to call the doctor for, but I'm still freaking out a little that I did some damage. In my head I know it's silly, it was successful, but I'm wondering if anyone else had BM stress?
Hope everyone is continuing to recover well, best wishes to all!
Nicole

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 05-Jul 11,2021
37 y/o had my robot assisted laproscopic total hysterectomy on the afternoon of July 8th. Despite having an empty bladder, I woke up feeling like I had to pee worse than I've ever had to in my life! Best they could tell, my urethra and bladder were irritated from the catheter. It took HOURS and 4 IV bags to build up enough pee for me to start trying to go on my own, which was a requirement of my release that evening. That pain was so insane, it masked the surgery pain. By the time they confirmed by ultrasound I had enough urine in my bladder to pee, I had a really hard time actually getting it out. They were threatening to send me home with a new cathetor inserted for a week, but after 3 tries over 2 hours an amazing nurse helped me by coming into the room with me, running the sink water, having me sniff peppermint and even using the hand-in-warm-water trick! When it finally came, it felt like razor shards, but i was so happy! While the nurse walked me back to my bed to prep for discharge, she had the whole recovery wing clap for me! (it was 8pm...had been a long day!)
So, honestly, thats been the worst part of recovery so far. No problems peeing since then. Passed gas about 24 hours post-op and pooped for the first time this morning. Alternating tylenol & IBProfin every 3 hours, Oxy every 6-8 hrs. Haven't had much of an appetite, but been forcing down berry smoothies, popcorn, scrambled eggs, salmon and tons of water. Started coffee again yesterday morning. Also been wearing an abdomen binder for additional support.
Achy abdomen aside, i feel great! I had fibroids and endometriosis lesions removed and i already feel less bloated and am finding it easier to breathe than before surgery. i know recovery is a long process, but so far, so good!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 05-Jul 11,2021
Hello ladies!
Suzanne here. I came home this afternoon after a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy. I lost the tubes, but kept the ovaries. Since I am 56 (but was still having periods all the way up until the beginning of this year), my doctor was going to leave the ovaries only if they looked really good. He was originally going to do a vertical incision up to my navel, due to my 26 week uterine size and location of the largest fibroid (outside, top, over 10 cm), but discovered that he was able to do a bikini line incision. He said the surgery went very well. If I insisted, they woukd have let me go home yesterday, but he preferred today.
I'm keeping the pain controlled with Ibuprofen combined with either Norco or Tylenol, depending on level of pain. I'm taking Dulcolax in an attempt to get things moving. As was the case the last time I had a Foley catheter, I don't feel it when my bladder is full, so I'm doing it by the clock.
My abdomen, even with significanr swelling, is already smaller than pre-surgical.
I know it will be a long haul to recovery, but I'm feeling optimistic.
