Vitamins for me and my ovaries! (2015)

I have seen a few posts regarding vitamins and supplements by sisters who have had ovaries removed with their surgeries. My ovaries are intact and I wasn't sure which vitamins or supplements would be right for me as I still have hormone production, or if that makes much difference at all! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Re: Vitamins for me and my ovaries!

I had a TLH on 8/15 and kept both ovaries. I actually found "Life's Fortune® MultiVitamin & Mineral All Natural Energy Source" Site won't let me post a link, sorry...I bought them on Amazon. but I found these as a recommendation from a nurse on the site who was using them while healing from her own Hyst. I did my research on them, and I'm really glad I did! I started taking them on the first day home and I feel fantastic at almost 4 weeks post op! And as far as my ovaries, well let's just say they are working quite well
Granted, I do eat healthy and drink my daily amount of water. But I am really looking forward to my 2nd post op appointment to find out how they have aided my internal healing.

Vitamins for me and my ovaries! (2015)

This thread is so helpful. I was told by my nurse to make sure and take vitamins post surgery so I was also curious what others have found useful.

I kept my ovaries, also have some lingering anemia and ADHD and mild cyclic mood disorder (a lot going on for me LOL). So want to find something that works across the board.

If anyone had ideas/suggestions of what's worked for them, let me know.

Thank you!

Re: Vitamins for me and my ovaries! (2015)

One supplement I commonly recommend for post-op mood issues is a broad-spectrum probiotic, to support the 90% of serotonin production that takes place in the intestinal tract, and depends on the friendly bacteria living in there, which may have been affected by antibiotics used in the surgery; other helpful dietary additions, especially at this time of year, include 2,000 IU of Vitamin D per day, a B complex supplement, and omega 3 fats from fatty fish, walnuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds, or a fish oil supplement with your doctor's approval. For the lingering anemia, I suggest focusing on iron-rich foods instead of taking supplements; top sources include pumpkin seeds, blackstrap molasses, lentils, chickpeas, split peas, black beans, and fortified soy or grain products. Accompanying these foods with a source of Vitamin C, like a glass of orange juice, can help to improve absorption. Ensuring you take in adequate protein, Vitamin C, and zinc can help to support the healing process; in addition to pumpkin seeds, zinc superstars include lean beef, dark meat poultry, oysters, and other nuts and seeds. Best wishes to everyone for a healthy recovery!
