Getting sick prior to surgery. Help!!

Hi this is my first post but I really have appreciated this site for the information it has provided for me to lurk and read and become informed before my surgery date.

I am scheduled for a partial hysterctomy on Jan 2nd at 6am. Ouch that is an early start to the day!! But good since we/I can't eat prior. Anyway, I spent all day in bed yesterday feeling just horrid. Today I feel better but I am EASILY winded from walking up the stairs. I don't think I've run any temp but have been sooo tired and slept without a problem all day yesterday and slept in until about 10am this morning. Probably could fall asleep if I laid down now. Not sure. My mom is bugging me to call the doctor and tell them of my illness. Will they postpone my surgery if I am just feeling yucky and not REALLY sick?

Getting sick prior to surgery. Help!!

Could this just be stress about your upcoming procedure? I know I'm a little apprehensive, and I go in 20 days after you do. BUT . . . if you're not feeling well, it's probably best to put a quick call into your doc to calm your nerves. It's best to find out now if putting off surgery is a possibility, instead of starving yourself for a day and going through the whole bowel prep, only to find out the day of, that it's not going to happen. Not to mention, you may be able to sleep in the day of 1/2! Better be safe than sorry. Your doctor is only a phone call away . . . take care of yourself first.

Getting sick prior to surgery. Help!!

HI,
I go 5 days after you and my sister in law's kids are all sick and my daughter spiked a high fever last night and today it has lowered a bit but she is now throwing up and coughing really bad. I went and bought as much defense aides as possible, including OJ, zinc throat drops and alka seltzer defense (they did not have zicam) I was suppose to go to a party tonight to ring in the new year but with my daughter getting sick and I just can not risk getting sick and having to postpone surgery I want the "C" out!! I hope it works good luck everyone.

Getting sick prior to surgery. Help!!

if you dont have a fever, congestion, arent vomiting or have diarrhea...i think they'd go ahead with the surgery. you could just have a case of nerves right now.

Getting sick prior to surgery. Help!!

My final period started 2 days before my surgery, and I had vomiting, diarrhea, and a fever of 99.7 or thereabouts -- plus the cramps from hell. I kept an eye on it, and my fever broke by morning. Get some rest, and keep an eye on it.

WKYTransplant,

Like Play4Gumbo said, it could be nerves and you should always call your doctor if you have any medical questions. If your periods have been heavy, you may be anemic. This will make you both tired and winded. My blood count was low before surgery and I couldn't walk ten yards without feeling like I'd just ran a marathon. I hope you feel better soon!

Getting sick prior to surgery. Help!!

WKYTransplant, my surgery is scheduled for Jan. 3rd and I too have been extra sleepy. I think it could be the stress of unwinding after the holidays, then thinking about surgery and the post op period.

I'm trying to treat myself well and allow myself naps when possible. Drink lots of fluids if you can.

Good luck!

Getting sick prior to surgery. Help!!

I did call the doctor and they said as long as I wasn't running a temp and the fact that I felt better yesterday then I did on Sunday that I should be okay. But if I started running a temp and my symptoms got worse then I should call the outpatient surgery and tell them of my illness.

I am doing better today. Still get winded easily but that is okay, with me, that just means I can whine with some backing when I ask that they do some work around the house.
