TAH: I think I will get my period on the big day..

Hello to everyone form Houston!!

I'm scheduled for my TAH on October 8th. I will be on my period!! Has anyone had this issue?? I'm hoping I will be late.

Also, will you be able to shower if you are staying 3 days??

I'm on edge, don't know what to bring, none of my clothes are loose fitting.

I too was expecting my period the day of surgery (17th Sep 2013) and in fact got it two days before.
There was no problem whatsoever the nurses just gave me a sanitary pad along with my lovely underwear and stockings lol x
You will be able to shower most probably day two or three x
I just took my 'Bridget Jones' pants and some lounge wear but to be honest i only used these on coming home (day four) as was provided with gowns and pants by the nurses (it saves on the washing too).

I was due to start a week prior to surgery and was late so I started that morning (2 hours before surgery). It's not a problem at all. They don't care. My onc just said "well this will be the shortest period you have ever had" and laughed. Love that man!

Normally, it is not an issue to have your period with this surgery. Just let them know when you arrive so they can prepare.

I was in the hospital 3 1/2 days, and I showered two days after my surgery. It felt wonderful.....

You will really need loose fitting clothes because of your swelly belly. Perhaps you can get some sweats, or loose fitting dresses. I spent 12 weeks in sweats and old shorts. I took some time before I could wear all my normal clothes again.

I got some nightgowns and a fluffy robe to wear home and around the house until i feel better. As far as your period I have mine more often than not and my dr did not have a problem with it. I have a tah on the ninth so if I have any.problems with my plan I'll let you know but I did get some support undergarments and binder also just to see if it helps.

I asked before because I was due to start theday before my surgery but I did not yay! However my doctor said they are vampires so blood does not bother them they deal with it all the time! Lol! I figured as much but I asked just to ease my mind

I just got some comfy clothes and some slip on shoes. I'm guessing I'm going to need help putting my pants for a TAH.
