Infant Swimming Resource...

  Quote:
Your pool concerns me since it will be such a brand-new attraction for your DD. You will be recovering and it sounds like DH will be unavailable: how will you make sure your DD NEVER enters it or plays around it unsupervised? We lost our youngest child in a pool fifteen years ago, despite locked doors and of all of our care, so yes - I am paranoid about pools. She was apparently dipping some water from it to pour into her toy kitchen. She definitely knew she was not to enter the pool area without an adult, but she did so anyway. She had to climb up to undo the high lock to the pool area and must have fallen or reached for a floating toy and slipped - we will never know for sure.
sbmanatee~

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter. I can't even pretend to know the pain you have experienced all of these years. Your story, though, has given me the opportunity to "plug" a swimming survival course that both of my children have gone through. I have a friend who lost her youngest son to a nearby lake. We have a pool in our backyard, so this survival class was very important to me. This 6 week (5 days/week) course teaches the children what to do if they “fall” in the water...In order to "graduate" they have to fall into the pool with full winter clothes on and get to the other side of the pool and safely out all on their own. Although, I still have fears with having the pool, this does give me some peace of mind...My daughter (2) fell into the pool last weekend and was able to swim/float to the steps on her own. She was very scared when she got out, but she did get out of the pool on her own. (My husband and I were outside and would have been able to get to her if she needed us...)

Anyway, ladies, check out this website...It's amazing what they teach these babies to do...SOOOOOOOO much better than normal swim lessons...

Again, sbmanatee~ My heart goes out to you with many prayers. I didn't mean to take advantage of your loss to "advertise" for something...But maybe one person will see the link and find an instructor near them...Maybe together we could help to save one little life...
