If they do vertical I guess its a good excuse for a new tattoo lol
The tat to cover it is a great idea. I do wonder though, I tried to get one to cover my c section scar years ago and was told they couldn't do it because the hard scar tissue around it wouldn't take the ink correctly. I guess they could place it right next to or above though to draw attention away from it.
I love pole and am worried about the scar too. I made my doc promise today if he had to open he would use my c section scar unless something went majorly wrong.

Thanks for letting me know some of the different reasons people get it. I know some ladies don't really care about the scarring, but I didn't understand why anyone would want or need such a big cut anyway with all the different options available.

Say you walk into a shop. There are hundreds of different pairs of pants in the shop. But that doesn't mean that you have hundreds of different options as to which pants you're going to buy. What it *does* mean is that you have a better chance of finding pants that are a good fit for your particular body. Sometimes, the older, more classic styles are still the best choice. ;-)

I don't think any of us "wanted" a big ugly scar (In ANY direction!)..I would think the vertical incision would be done due to medical necessity and sometime health and safety are more important than vanity.

I was at risk for ovarian cancer and if that had been the case they would have extended the incision even farther up to take peri-aortic nodes.

Why do people get a vertical insicion instead of a c section type one that is easily hidden if they have a tah?
Vertical due to size, location, and safety. If the fibroid is above the navel it makes a lot of sense.

Re: Just wondering why anyone has a vertical incision done for their hysterectomy?

Mine was due to ovarian cancer. They wanted more room to investigate my abdomen and also more room to remove the omentum (fat lining behind the muscle). I recovered well with a few minor hiccups.

Re: Just wondering why anyone has a vertical incision done for their hysterectomy?

I had a vertical incision due to the size of my fibroid and all of the organs it had displaced.
The vertical incision is not only for emergencies.
