Nervous Newbie: upcoming hysterectomy
Hello!
I'm 47, never have had children (not a "want" for me) and am scheduled to have a laproscopic hysterectomy - keeping ovaries on 4/17. Adenomyosis... which I had never heard of - and am pretty freaked out. Mostly because I've always thought of a hysterectomy as a surgery done much later in life (aka "I'm feeling very old!").
I'm not afraid of surgery, have a wonderful husband to help, and can work from home after.
I guess it has caught me by surprise and I'm just out of balance.
I've ready everything on the site but cannot seem to settle down.
Any thoughts / suggestions are appreciated!
Laura

Re: Nervous Newbie
I had a LAVH 3/19 and did great. I was, with doctor approval, driving 5 days post and gradually increasing my activities daily. It was only 2 wk ago but feels like 12 mo ago as recovery was relatively quick and painless. I had discomfort and no severe pain post surgery.

Re: Nervous Newbie
Yep adeno had me feeling very old, tired and without hope. Hormonal means wouldn't work and it was accelerating very fast in me. I'm 44 had a TVH, relax and stay busy. Look forward to having your life back and a renewed sense of hope. Now we can have intimacy any time, my daily pain is gone. Pathology showed extensive adenomyosis and multiple fibroids, Dr said it was a very sick uterus. The staff was excellent very on top of pain control. Been there, got the t shirt it all turned out ok , hang in there.

Re: Nervous Newbie
Hi, i had a TLH on march 17th. I am only 27 so trust me this isnt just an 'old lady' surgery. Well i hope not anyway lol. I had a tons of anxieties before my OP but staying busy getting everything in order before the OP helped out alot! Made sure house was prepared, bills lined up, my comfy clothes all prepared. Also this site helped me alot!! The hints from members on this site was a very big help to have everything prepared.
Wishing you a safe and helathy recovery period!!

Re: Nervous Newbie
Hi I had partial Laproscopic Hysterectomy just 5days ago and I'm feeling really good! I'm 43 and my doctor did remove some Fibroids while he was in as well but this doesn't seemed to have slowed down the healing process.
I totally agree with BnB...just have all your ducks in a row...bills paid, house clean, sheets changed, yoga pants and fuzzy socks at the ready. And dont feel guilty about resting and taking your time feeling better. I figured Im better taking more time getting to 100% then rushing it and being of no use to anyone in the short term!
Good luck to you! You'll be great! and like my doctor says..so much happier once you've done it!

Re: Nervous Newbie: upcoming hysterectomy
I'll be 47 in June. We're not old. What's making me less nervous is aiming for the end results. I posted about having a hysterectomy done on my Facebook and out of all the comments, not one was negative. My page was filled with "you won't regret it" "I feel so much younger, healthier, more active". Try and focus on all the positive possibilities when you're not dealing with adenomyosis and all the pain that goes with it. You're going to do great.
