Comfort AND a New Purpose

I have really appreciated HysterSisters--it has helped me so much throughout all of my surgical processes. I discovered it last year, when I was petrified and very actively researching rectocele. I was immediately comforted that I was not the only one dealing with this situation and was able to read about others' experiences that were similar to mine. Soon afterwards, my suspicions were confirmed by my doctor that I would actually need surgery for not only rectocele, but also cystocele and a hysterectomy. I started a few new threads looking for answers. Then, before and after my hysterectomy, I was intermittently active on my recovery thread--progressing to daily and even several times daily...checking on my sisters in my recovery thread. By the time I hit 5 weeks post-op or so, I felt the need to "give back" more to the site that had helped me so much, or maybe "pay it forward" to the new girls who were experiencing fear in the same situation that I had been in previously. I began commenting on many pre and post op threads. I posted words of encouragement and of comfort for those who needed them. Then, a link appeared in my recovery thread asking for Sunshine Sister applicants. I didn't really know what that was, but it definitely sounded like my cup of tea! I applied and within just a few days, I was overseeing the newest post op recovery thread that had begun that week. I feel very useful, helping these women. Every morning, I post some encouragement and address their concerns. I have really been enjoying this "den mother" sort of position. I am grateful for everything that HysterSisters has done for me, and I recommend it to everyone! (I just did again yesterday for a much younger friend who is now going through the same trials that I did.)

Thank you, HysterSisters!
